No-body was surprised when Ms. Hermione Granger received her Head Girl badge. She'd been destined for it ever since she stepped foot into that big daunting castle eleven years old, a muggle-born and already the brightest witch of their age.
Understandably she still did a lot of jumping around and squealing as the golden pin dropped from her yellow envelope.
"Blimey Hermione, calm down." Ron said groggily still not fully awake but now thoroughly deaf.
"I did it Ron! I'm Head Girl!" She grinned at him broadly and give him a small peck on the cheek before taking a piece of toast off the table. Ron's ears reddened some and he smiled at his girlfriend before starting to greedily scoff down food. Hermione sighed with content and Mrs Weasley gave her a warm chuckle.
"Well done Hermione dear." She clucked giving her a squishy hug.
"Yeah, well done Hermione." The witch turned around to see the crooked grin of the Boy Who Lived, he patted her back gently and took a seat next to Ginny and held her hand in his own. Ginny simply winked at her muggle-born friend never for a second doubting she wouldn't one day be the Witch of the school.
"Does it tell you who the Head Boy is?" Ron asked curiously although Hermione could sense his possessive 'I'm-your-boyfriend-so-I'm-the-only-boy-that-can-look-at-you' side coming out.
"Nope," she answered easily. "It just says to report to the Head Compartment where we'll be given our instructions." Harry looked over to her suspiciously.
"That's odd, don't they usually tell you who you're supposed to share a Common Room with?" He questioned remembering when Percy boasted about his Head badge and then very begrudgingly told them he had to share a Common Room with an 'insipid, down-right rude Ravenclaw.' Hermione shrugged her delight too loud in her ears to comprehend anything bad about the minor details. McGonagall probably just forgot to tell put it in the letter. Completely harmless.

"Draco darling, a letter came for you." Narcissa knocked dutifully on the door before peering around it, only to find her pale haired son still very much asleep. At two thirty in the afternoon, she pursed her lips in distaste and crossed the room silently to the curtains and yanked them apart letting bright sunlight into the once dark room.
A hiss erupted from the Draco as he buried further into his pillow. He couldn't care less about a mail call, he needed sleep. Mrs Malfoy shook her head in amusement before raising her wand.
"Aguamenti" Water spouted from the tip of her wand and soaked her son and his covers, he yelped in surprise and jumped up off his bed.
"It's a conspiracy I swear, first the house-elves clanking about my bedroom, then that infernal owl screeching and now you giving your own bloody son pneumonia!" He ranted shaking his head like a dog droplets of water spraying all over the room. Narcissa smiled at him laughter in her cold eyes.
"You honestly are a Drama Queen Draco dear, it's the middle of the afternoon you don't need anymore sleep." She berated her son lightly, but Draco did need more sleep he'd spent the night haunted by nightmares and had kept waking up in cold sweats. He hadn't had a decent nights sleep since his third year.
His mother handed over the Hogwarts letter excitedly, it seemed thicker than usually and to his surprise the seal was already broken.
"Mum," he moaned as she shushed him and urged him to open it.
"I've told you not to open my mail." He said grudgingly, she gave him a sharp look and Draco sighed and obligingly opened up the letter.
His liquid silver eyes flitted across each word and then he slipped his new shiny Head Boy badge out of the envelope. He didn't know what to do with himself, of course he was honoured and in a sort of disbelief as he didn't think himself worthy after all he'd done. He thought for sure The Boy Who Just Wouldn't Die would get this position and he took pride in the fact he'd got one over on Boy Wonder.
"Well..." Mrs Malfoy waiting for a reaction from her son, he smirked of course and have his mother a very swift hug.
"I'm not surprised," he lied, "I'm a Malfoy after all." Narcissa shook her head in disappointment it was hard to reverse a life-time of backwards teachings even with Lucious gone. Yet, Draco was getting better...sort of.
