It was the first real day of classes, and Bloom knew that she was not destined to be a princess. Well, actually, her Special Talents had actually gone pretty well. She had it with both Flora and Stella. Dean Farah Gonda had a silver key shaped like a swan. She stuck it into each of the students' hands and turned it, unlocking their fingerglows. It sounded painful, but when she did it to her, she felt absolutely nothing. One by one, each of the students displayed their talents.
Stella went first. Her finger glowed bright orange, and then her entire body glowed yellow, illuminating the room. Then she took off her ring and flipped it into the air, and suddenly, she was holding a sky-blue staff that looked a lot like the ring. Then a girl named Musa used her red fingerglow to create beautiful music. Prince Sky of Eraklyon, his best friend Brandon, and his other friend Riven had a playful fight. Sky had a sky-blue fingerglow that allowed him to magically generate a thin, glowing, sky-blue sword and a matching shield. Brandon had a pale green fingerglow and his talent was similar, except his sword was larger, heavier, and pale green, and he didn't have a shield. Riven had a curved, magenta sword that was apparently called a scimitar. A girl named Tecna had a pale purple fingerglow and could create life-like images of people and things, although they were just made of light and couldn't be touched. Aisha had a bluish-green fingerglow and could create this pink thing she called morphix, which could become a gas, a liquid, or a solid.
After many students went up, Dean Farah Gonda called her up to the front of the room to display her talent. Bloom walked up, nervous, and imagined her finger glowing. She opened her eyes. Nothing. She tried again. Nothing. She tried a third time, this time not really thinking about her finger, but how she felt like all her wishes had come true, and here she was, learning to be a real fairytale princess. This time, her finger glowed a brilliant blue, like blue fire. She felt something inside her wake up, and suddenly, she felt herself floating in the air. The next thing she knew, she was back on the ground, the entire class staring at her, including Dean Farah Gonda. She pointed at Bloom, and suddenly there was a fiery, golden 1 floating above her head. Aisha got a shimmering 2. Tecna got a glowing 3, Stella got a shiny 4, Flora got a 5 that was wrapped in vines, Musa got a sparkling 6, and Sky got a gleaming 7. Later, Stella told Bloom that a dragon made of fire appeared from nowhere, blew fire all over the class (which thankfully had done no harm), wrapped around her, and disappeared inside her. At the end of class, Dean Farah Gonda pulled Bloom over, telling her to meet her in her classroom after her last class.

Beautification was a horror. Professor Palladium had the entire class practice applying makeup. Naturally, Stella got an immediate 1. Bloom, on the other hand? Not so much. She got a bronze 20. Then was History of Heroism, which incredibly boring. She got a bronze 19. In Animal Communication, all the girls got to receive their tale-long partners, who would assist them in their fairy tales. Flora was in this class, and she got an adorable little white kitten with green eyes, pink ears, and a pink nose. She named him Coco. Bloom got a white colt with a cream-colored mane and brown eyes. She named him Elas. According to Cabal, who was one of the heads of a two-headed dog when she first saw him but now was separated from Sirius, the other head, the pets will grow and evolve each year as their owner's fairy tale track and story become more obvious. She got a silver 15 in that class because Cabal felt that Elas was an okay match for her and that his name suited him, but others seemed more connected. Just above a Mogrif grade.
At lunch, Bloom, Flora, and Stella sat together, but since Stella insisted on sitting with Aisha and Tecna, the only two girls who had beaten her that day (and Bloom, of course), and Aisha was best friends with Musa, all six girls sat together. As it turned out, Aisha, Tecna, and Musa were all roommates, and their room happened to be Room 307 in Purity Tower, the room right next to Bloom, Flora, and Stella's room. Bloom showed the girls Elas, and Coco emerged from Flora's schoolbag. She learned that Stella's pet was a poodle named Shiny, Aisha, a rabbit named Lemmy, Musa, a cat named Pepe, and Tecna, a squirrel named Flitter.
