Chapter 1
Third Person's POV
He couldn't help himself.
The minute school was out he went to a bookstore and bought an entire book full of shiny gold stars.
He wanted to see that smile again.
It was beautiful. It made him feel good.
And it would make him feel even better if he was the reason behind it.
He scoffed to himself.
He had barely interacted with the girl and here he was, crushing on her.
But he couldn't help it. In those few moments he spent with her, she did something to his heart and now he just wanted to make her happy.
He wanted to protect her.
He couldn't explain how or why it happened so fast, almost instantaneously, but he didn't care.
Besides, it's not as if he was going to rush into a relationship or something.
She was different. Fragile.
He knew she wasn't ready for this.
Hell, he didn't even know if she was ready for them to be friends.
But that was okay.
He would take it day by day.
All he wanted was to make her happy.
He could practically hear his dad and his friends calling him whipped in his head, along with his mother swooning.
Whatever. He just wouldn't tell them.
He walked up the Gomez' driveway and made it to their front door, leaning against the wall after he had rung the doorbell.
He had kindly agreed to meet Selena at her house after school to begin her tutoring sessions until she was comfortable enough to be alone with Justin without her mother around.
Even if the school library was a public place, she didn't feel safe without her mother. In Selena's eyes, she was her protector and with her mom around, nothing would ever hurt her again.
Her mom had promised her that.
The door was ripped open by Selena a few seconds later and her mother was close behind.
"How many times have I told you not to open the door by yourself? It's dangerous!" Her mother reprimanded and the brunette looked down apologetically.
She was eighteen. This should be normal. But it wasn't...
She knew she wasn't normal. Her parents had explained to her that something had happened and they weren't sure what.
She didn't know either.
She was a smart girl and when she realized everyone seemed to be years ahead of her she questioned why and her parents had no choice but to tell her.
She knew that whatever happened was the reason she wasn't on the same level as everyone else.
But it still bothered her that she had no friends.
It wasn't her fault.
All she wanted was to be like everyone else.
She wanted to be normal again.
She wanted her friends to love her and her parents to stop fighting.
She hated that she was the reason they fought.
She trailed behind her mother as she led Justin into the living room.
She took a seat on the floor in front of a glass coffee table and leaned back against the couch watching as Justin followed suit.
Noticing her sour mood, Justin pulled out the book of gold star stickers he had bought, grinning when she smiled again.
She looked at him with her bright chocolate eyes.
"Is that for me?" She squeaked hopefully. He nodded, gazing at her tenderly.
"I'm going to go over the work with you and for every question you get right you'll get a gold star okay? And you can stick it wherever you want, doesn't have to be on paper."
"So I can put it on my hand and clothes and face?" She grew even more excited and his grin widened.
"Anywhere you like." He repeated, flipping open his notebook in front of her.
"Ready to start?"
She nodded eagerly, scooting closer to him.
"Okay so electricity is defined as..."

"Mommy! Mommy! Look! I got gold stars! And a whole bunch of them!" Selena sprang up from her seat when her mother came into the room, running into her open arms.
"I see that. Congrats hun." She kissed her daughter's head and Justin's heart warmed at how happy she was in that moment.
"Did she get them all out Justin?" She asked the blonde who was gathering his things.
"Yes ma'am. She just needed a little push sometimes but she's a smart girl."
"I am?" Selena tilted her head to the side as she studied him.
His heart felt weird. She looked so innocent and beautiful as she stood in her mother's arms, her face covered in gold stars and that pink butterfly clip still in her hair even though it was dangling in front her face.
"You are." He confirmed, his chest swelling with an un-describable feeling as she flashed him that damn smile yet again.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He stood up with his bag.
"Okay. Bye!" She waved as her mother led him to the front door. He chuckled.
Jesus, this girl was worming her way into his heart fast and she didn't even know it.

Thoughts?
I know it's short but this is only the first chapter. It'll get longer soon enough.
