Chapter 4
Justin's POV
"Mom! I'm home!" I called out, pulling Selena inside with me.
She gripped on to my hand tightly, obviously feeling uncomfortable in the unfamiliar environment.
"Hey honey. How was school?" Mom greeted when we entered the kitchen. Her back was turned to us as she did the dishes so she didn't see Selena.
"School was good. This is Selena. The girl I told you about." She turned around quickly, her eyes immediately lighting up when they landed on Selena.
No wonder we were related.
"Selena! Oh darling it's so nice to finally meet you. Justin talks about you all the time. I'm Pattie." She stayed where she was knowing that a hug would probably scare Selena.
"Mom!" I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks. Why would she tell her that?
"What?" She asked not seeing where she went wrong. "Oh my God, you're just as gorgeous as he said you were. Are you staying for dinner?"
She nodded shyly, biting her thumb.
"Her mom will come get her once she's finished working." I informed. She smiled even wider when she looked at where our hands were joined.
I rolled my eyes. My mother could be more hyper than my brother and sister combined sometimes.
"We'll be in my room."
"Okay. Wait! Do you guys want anything to eat or drink in the meanwhile."
"No we're good thanks."
"Alright hun, I'll call you when dinner's ready."
I led Selena to my room where Jaz and Jax were sprawled out on my bed, both of them staring up at the ceiling.
"Hey guys." I walked in with a raised eyebrow. "What's going on?"
"Justin!" They both jumped up to hug me.
"Nothing. We were waiting on you to play with us."
"Who's this?"
"This is Selena. She's my friend."
"Will she play with us too?"
"Sure she will."
"Oh well, I'm Jazmyn and this is Jaxon. Do you know how to play Candyland?"
Selena nodded excitedly following us onto my bed where the game was already set up.
This would be fun.

"I'm sleepy." Selena complained after she yawned, rubbing her eyes with her fist.
We had managed to get in a tutoring session before dinner and it was currently around seven.
Her mom wouldn't be here until at least eight so she had enough time for a cat nap.
"Go ahead. I'll wake you up when your mom gets here." I told her, gesturing for her to lay down on my bed.
"Are you sure? I can wait." She offered in that cute little voice of hers.
"I'm positive. Go ahead."
"Will you stay with me? Please?" She looked at me with those damn eyes again. I was putty in her hands. She could tell me to jump of a bridge and I would if that made her happy.
Pathetic but true.
"Of course I will. Lie down." She did as she was instructed, making herself comfortable on my pillows.
I pulled the comforter over her and tucked her in. I lay on the edge of the bed and gently began to rub her back as she turned on her side to face me.
She tucked her head near my chest, just close enough so that her hair brushed my shirt and she drifted off to sleep looking nothing short of an absolute angel.
I stayed where I was while she slept, playing Temple Run on my phone.
I was determined to beat Ryan's score.
Her mom got here around nine and I heard her apologizing to my mom as they made their way up the stairs.
I sat up, gently shaking Selena to wake her.
"Justin?"
"Hey. Your mom's here."
She nodded blinking to get rid of the sleepy haze she was in.
"Hey guys."
"Hey Mandy."
"Hi Momma."
"I'm so sorry about this Justin. I couldn't get out of it. Thank you so so much for taking care of her today."
"I told you, it really wasn't a problem." I reassured once again as Selena tiredly leaned on me.
She opened her mouth to speak but my mom cut her off.
"Believe me, Justin was more than happy to have Selena here." She smirked as my hand unconsciously rubbed up and down Selena's arm.
Her mother laughed. "Well that's good to hear. Come on Selena, let's get going before you fall asleep again."
She sighed, standing up.
"Bye Justin, bye Justin's mom."
I chuckled as she stumbled over her feet. I made my way over to her and easily picked her up in my arms, my heart fluttering as she nuzzled her head into my chest.
This was something I could get used to.
I took her out to her mom's car and buckled her into the passenger seat.
I quickly placed a kiss on her forehead when I thought her mom wasn't looking but I was obviously mistaken because when I turned back around she had her arms crossed as she smirked at me.
"You like her don't you?"
"What? No!" I denied, willingly myself not to blush.
She raised an eyebrow. "Okay maybe." I relented, nervously rubbing the back of my neck.
I shifted from foot to foot as she remained silent. She wasn't going to tell me to stay away from Selena was she?
Finally, after what seemed like a millennium, she smiled.
"You're a great guy Justin and you're awfully kind to her. I trust that you won't hurt her so go for it. My advice would be to take it slow though. You're growing on her. She talks about you all the time."
He hung on to every word she said.
"Really? What does she say?"
"She tells me that you think she's smart and pretty and that you're always super nice to her."
Justin could feel his heart warming as her mother recalled her words. A smile stretched across his face.
"She's amazing." He found himself saying as his eyes drifted back to her.
"She is. I'm glad you're the one that sees that. Take care of her for me Justin. I'm trusting you by allowing her to get close to you."
"I will I promise."
"Good. Well I'll see you tomorrow."
"You too Mandy. Drive safely."
"Thanks Justin."
He walked back inside his house in a daze.
Her mother was trusting him with Selena.
Selena herself was beginning to trust him.
This night just kept getting better and better.
