Chapter 2

Justin's POV

Selena actually warmed up to me faster than I expected.

I've been going over to her house everyday for the past two weeks to help her and already her grades were improving.

She was brilliant, she just needed a little extra push like the guidance counselor said.

It made me feel like I was on top of the world when she smiled at me, an action that I was already accustomed to.

She was wonderful. Amazing. The girl had me wrapped around her finger.

She still wasn't at the point where she was willing to work in public alone but that was fine.

It was more than okay. Her house was warm and she was comfortable and happy there.

More smiles for me to see.

Damn I loved those things. It was the way her entire face lit up and her chocolate eyes sparkled.

It was refreshing and heartwarming all in one. I was only used to seeing those fake smiles girls were when they were trying to flirt. The sultry ones.

But Selena, hers were innocent and pure and genuine and Jesus, I sounded like a girl in a Nicholas Sparks book.

I didn't even realize I was staring at her until a finger snapped in front of my face.

"Dude, what are you looking at? We lost you for like a full minute."

I shook my head turning back to them even though I could still see her in my peripheral view. She rested her head on the desk and closed her eyes.

Was she okay?

"Nothing. I was just thinking."

"About?"

"Nothing important." I dismissed.

"Okay well you just missed the best news for the day." He informed.

I raised my eyebrows as a silent gesture for him to continue.

"Heinman's out. Too short notice for a sub so we have a free." He smirked.

I narrowed my eyes. "You're ditching third and forth with Grace aren't you?"

"She's got a free. It's the least I can do." He held up his hands.

I rolled my eyes, leaning back into my chair.

"At least you're not leaving me to fend for myself with the plastics." Ak a three girls that were as fake and annoying as they came.

He scoffed. "That would be a violation of the bro code. Scratch that, a violation of the human code."

I laughed but it was cut of by the sound of something slamming against a desk.

My head turned in time to see Selena fly up from her seat, her eyes wide and panicked.

The plastics laughed.

"Aw, is the wittle baby scared?" The leader cooed mockingly.

"Does she want her mommy?"

I got up and stalked towards them just as one of them grabbed the butterfly clip from her hair.

I held onto her wrist.

"Leave her alone." I gritted, clenching my jaw so hard I was sure I was damaging my teeth.

"Why?" She challenged.
