"That's the first time you've ever given a shit about anyone else in your life, Adelaide!" Ivy's spirit giggled. She hadn't aged at all. She was the Ivy I knew- black hair, green eyes, and the most adorable face in any child. Her wrists, to my shock, were deeply bruised. I remembered they were exactly like that right before she died.

I couldn't put together any words. Thomas flinched at Ivy's remark, which made him bleed more. Ivy stepped inside.

Sophia was being dragged behind her lifelessly. She was alive, and her eyes were open- but just barely. My mouth hung open in shock as tears flooded from my eyes.

"Now, Addie, you gotta choose," Ivy said with a smirk. My body went numb in fear. "You can choose this... person, or you can choose him." She referred to Thomas in an angry way.

Sophia was staring at me with tears in her eyes. Thomas was completely frozen, but was still holding onto me for dear life.

Ivy giggled. "Three... two... one...."

I couldn't say anything. I just couldn't. Neither of their names, at least. "Kill me! Just kill me!"

Ivy was silent for a second, then started cracking up. "That isn't an option, Addie! It's your half dead friend or your half sister!"

"Ivy, this isn't you," Thomas choked out.

"It's me ever since you had to live!" Ivy cried. I couldn't even tell if she was angry or sad.

Thomas took a quick breath. "Ivy, if I took your spot just-"

Blood splashed over my legs. Ivy's hand was digging into Sophia's throat, yanking out her spinal cord. I screamed and reached out for her, but I was lifted into the air. Fingernails yanked at my eyelids, causing me to watch the whole scene. My eyes felt like fire, which made the tears come faster. Sophia wasn't dead yet. Ivy stabbed her in the chest, making her spit up blood. I kicked my legs around and screamed in agony as I saw her heart be ripped out by my old friend, who clearly wasn't the same anymore. Sophia's eyes rolled back in her head, and I dropped to the floor. Ivy fell flat on her butt.

"No!" I sobbed, continuing to scream like I was still floating in mid air. Thomas was concerningly silent.

Ivy looked confused.

"You're the one with no heart! You're the one who doesn't care!" I screamed at her. She flinched. "You can't be Ivy! You aren't!"

The cellar became dead silent. Ivy's skin became paler, and her eyes didn't look as dead. She started crying softly, and it gradually became louder. Finally, she looked like a human. A human with a heart. "What have I done?! No!" She set the heart down carefully like it had feelings. She put her bloody hands on her face, then disappeared.

I crawled over to Sophia like a zombie. I pulled her into my arms. Hugging a dead person wasn't on my list of things to do before I died, that's for sure.

"God damn it!" Thomas cried. "I should've just let her kill me!"

Rushing footsteps approached the cell.

"Addie! Tommy!" I heard Brynne yell. I didn't even say anything. The skin on my lips was dry and cracking. I was trying to form words, but my body didn't want to work. I didn't want to work.

I heard a gasp. "Oh my god. What happened?!"
"Tommy, are you okay?!"

"Who's that?"

Thomas put his head in his hands and yanked on his hair. "Sophia Rourke. Addie's half sister... Ivy did this..."

"I-Ivy?!" Brynne stuttered.

"Not the real Ivy... the crazy ill Ivy," Thomas whimpered.

I finally looked up and saw Brynne. I reached to her pocket, grabbed the syringe that I knew was there, and stabbed it into my thigh.
