My sight flickered back to me like a lit candle. I realized something. It was their birthday. Max had stopped snoring, and Harvey let go of me overnight. They were both still asleep. I sneaked out of Harvey's bed, which I had been staying in for the past few days. I slipped past the already opened door, sneaking down into the kitchen. The twins' parent were on the couch, enjoying coffee.
"Good morning, Alyssa. What are you doing?" their mom asked, curious to what I was doing in the kitchen.
"Morning. I was gonna make the twins a birthday breakfast." I answered. They smiled and said that they would be there if I needed them. I nodded and scavenged the fridge. In the way back, I found an un-opened pack of cinnamon roll dough. I checked the expiration date. May 13, 2017. It's still good. I opened it and pre-heated the oven. While the oven heated, I followed the instructions on the packaging. When the oven went off, saying it was ready, I put the cinnamon rolls in. I grabbed my phone from the back pocket of my shorts and took a picture of the baking cinnamon rolls. I heard footsteps walk down the stairs, and it was Leo. I smiled back at his friendly, drowsy wave. The cinnamon scent filled the kitchen. Tilly ran down the stairs.
"What smells so good?" she demanded. I laughed. Her blonde hair was tangled and covering her face.
"I'm making Max and Harvey a birthday breakfast." I explained. "It's cinnamon rolls.". She smiled and bounded off to the couch to hang out with their parents. I heard the oven beep, and I took out the cinnamon rolls. I set them on a heat-resistant cloth and poured the icing onto them, which caused it to melt into gooey goodness. I put them in the oven again, trying to keep them warm as long as possible with the extra heat. I ran up to the twins' bedroom and threw the door back. Max woke up with a jolt.
"Jeez, Alyssa, can't we get some sleep on our birthday?" he teased sarcastically. Harvey slowly woke up.
"Just come down to the kitchen." I ordered and left. I ran down to the kitchen and grabbed some plates. Max and Harvey sleepily walked down the stairs.
"I smell something." Harvey announced and ran down the rest of the stairs. I took the rolls out of the oven and divided them evenly between the two of them.
"What's this?" Max asked, poking it with his fork.
"It's a cinnamon roll." I told him, guessing he was still waking up.
"Oh. We've never had one before..." Max confessed. I stared in shock.
"Max and Harvey Mills, you have betrayed me on sixteen different levels." I teased. They cautiously took a bite out of it.
"So good!" they said in unison. I laughed and put the dish in the sink.
