I limp across the town bridge and hug the sweatshirt as close to my body as possible. I hear my stomach growling but ignore it.
You have to keep going Hayley! They'll find you if you stop now! I scold myself for slowing down.
I limp faster and let the tears fall down my face from the pain of my shattered leg. I bet your wondering what I'm doing and whats going on. Well let me recap what all happened after I came home from school today.
••••••Flashback to 4 hrs ago••••••
"Hayley!" Peter yelled. Peter is my father but he definitely doesn't act like that so I just call him Peter. I hurriedly drop my homework and run down the stairs not wanting to keep him waiting."In the Den slut!" he yells sounding discussed. I run to the left and see him sitting in his recliner with 5 empty beer cans sitting on the table beside him. Great, He's drunk!
I cautiously walk to the side of the recliner, stepping over bags of chips and more empty beer cans. He looks at me with an evil smirk. Well I'm dead.
His eyes take in my body and I shiver at the discomfort.
"Now Hayley didn't I tell you never to wear something so modest around me?!" he says knowingly. I nod and he grabs my hair making me yelp.
"Then why are you wearing jeans and a long sleeve shirt!" he hisses and punches me while holding my hair.
"I..it wwwass co-co-ld out-s-idde an-n-dd in m-my r-roo-mm." I stutter out. He smirks knowing he is scaring me. He punches me 4 more times and I can see my vision go blotchy.
I can even feel the bruises starting to form and blood running down my scalp from how hard he is pulling my hair.
"Well go put on your uniform and clean up this mess!" he yells and pushes me to the floor. I nod and scurry off wishing I had loving parents. On my way up the stairs my mother pushes me down and laughs.
"Slow down slut!" she yells and kicks my stomach 5 times, and then walks into the kitchen. I push myself off the floor, again, and run up to my room and lock the door.
I throw up blood onto my floor from the impacts when Regina, my mother, kicked me in the stomach. I throw on a pair of clean dark jeans and an old American Eagle sweatshirt.
I pulled my dirty grey vans on and tied them. I stuffed a couple outfits in a duffel bag. I opened my desk drawer and pulled out my secret stash. My secret stash is the money I saved up from when I was a little kid ad my parents actually loved me.
I'll tell you the rest when I get out of this god forsaken place. I stuffed the $2K in my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I winced at the added weight to the bruises that Peter gave me last night.
The power went out while he was watching the football game and he blamed me so he beat me senseless. Literally I still think I have a concussion. Ignoring the excruciating pain my midsection is feeling, I climb out the bedroom window and look down.
Its about a 15ft drop from my window. I say a little prayer and jump landing in my left leg. I hear a crunch and a snap as I fall back.
I slap my hand over my mouth to muffle the screams and cries of pain. I let the silent sobs rack my body and lay there for what seems like forever.
•••end of flashback•••Now I'm here! Limping across my town bridge. why am i even trying to runaway. They'll just catch me like they always do.
This is like the 6th time I've done this and every time they catch me. I stop and loom around. Woods and an endless road.
