Amelia's Place

After a long rest of the day, Amelia was happy to just have the opportunity to put it all behind her. She parked her red chevy in the vacant parking lot and slipped her converse and socks off, throwing them onto the passenger side seat. She made her away along the sandy shore, making sure not to step on any prickly shells poking from underneath the surface. She watched the waves crash as she made her way, pillar after pillar of the massive pier, until she found her pillar. This pillar looked just like every other pillar on the shore, except for the fact that it was actually quite special. Inside was actually hollow, but no one could tell unless they knew the hole was there. She slipped her hand into the dark hole and reached around until her hand met the spirals of her black notebook. She smiled hugely at herself before hugging the notebook to her waist and making her way along the seaside until she saw vines and other vegetation ahead of her. Amelia expertly weaved her way through the vines until she saw the small path she had marked for traveling.

The place Amelia was making her way to was unknown to everyone else. To get there, one would have to travel around the spiky plants, careful not to fall or poke one accidentally. This was a mistake even Amelia had made previously, she could still feel the prickling in her side from the last time she had been there. Amelia had gotten to know the path, however, and she rarely messed up. The correct way to get past the vines was marked in the very notebook Amelia held in her arms. It wasn't necessarily her's, since it had once belonged to her mother instead. The first few pages were full of love letters all addressed to "My Dearest Chuck" that made Amelia smile and tear up whenever she read them. The next pages described the beautiful place that had now become Amelia's safe spot and how to navigate the vines. If Chuck knew Amelia had this notebook, she would be in serious trouble. Chuck never questioned Amelia's motives; he was glad to see her actually getting out of the house instead of cooped up watching Netflix all the time.

Amelia finally made her way past the vines and vegetation, and the first thing Amelia saw amazed her. She had been here about fifty times before but with each time comes more and more wonder and amazement in her eyes. She never came here when she was suicidal or upset because it would steal all the happiness out of this place. The waves were always calm, and occasionally she could even see a dolphin sticking its fin out from underneath the waves. The beach had no sign of human activity, only nature. Amelia saw a sea turtle making its way to the ocean, so she decided to plop down right there not to disrupt it. She leafed through all the pages until she found the next plain piece of paper, and all she did was write about everything going through her mind. Her mother, this happy place, and even Andrew made its way onto this sheet of paper. Writing always amazed Amelia. Black symbols on a sheet of paper could make people happy, cry, laugh, or even get mad. These symbols connect spiritually to each individual in a different way, and it made her smile to think that maybe her writing could one day make others feel the same emotions as well. Amelia wrote until her heart was content, then she made her way back home. She wasn't ready for what was about to happen next.
