At exactly three weeks into her second trimester Leigh had had her second scan. She found out the gender but only the girls, her parents and sister knew what she was having. She was noticeably showing so it was time for the big announcement. Her only question, how she was gonna do it.
Her options were to share the news via social media, in an interview or to not say anything and let fans and the media speculate then confirm it.
After giving it a couple days of deep consideration she decided that social media would be best given that the interviews they were due for were in America to promote their single over there. Dumping that sort of news right before then wouldn't be too smart plus fans were already speculating. It didn't make any sense trying to hide it because in a couple months time the truth would come out when she's seen walking around with a baby.
She took her sonogram out from the nightstand draw. She carefully took it out of the envelope and stared at it. She found herself smiling like a star on the darkest night as she traced the lines gently with her index finger.
She grabbed her phone and snapped a picture of it. She cropped it and posted it to Instagram with a short but sweet caption.
'Just a few months to go my love. Can't wait to see your beautiful face.'
Send.
Within seconds her phone blew up from notifications. Curious about the response, she checked the comments. The majority were good, congratulating her on her unborn baby and saying she'd be a great mum. She hoped she would be.
She turned her notifications for the app off until the shock of the news died down.
...
Four days later Leigh's Christmas preperations got in full swing. Since this was her first Christmas in her own home she decided to have a small party with her family and closest friends. Her chest fluttered with pride as she thought about her owning her own home.
The house was relatively clean since Little Mix had just gotten back from America one day prior. She connected her phone to her dock and cheery Christmas songs began to flow from the speakers putting her in a good mood. She took out the boxes of decorations she had bought before her promo trip from the attic and sat patiently and took them out the boxes and plastic bags. She saved the decorating of tree for last as it was her favourite thing to do. As she decorated the tree she reminisced back to her childhood Christmases where she, her two sisters and her parents would decorate the tree. Her dad always used to lift her high to put the star on the top.
Leigh obviously was gonna keep the tradition alive when her little one arrived and was old enough but it hit her that she couldn't because her baby wouldn't have a father. She swallowed the growing lump in her throat and blinked away her tears. She could do it instead but it wouldn't be the same.
'Now's not the time to think about that' She thought to herself. She redirected her focus back to decorating the tree.
After doing that she began to bake some Christmas cookies just for fun and she was craving something homemade and sweet. Two of her best friends, Grace and Sam dropped by with Sam's son, Jeremiah. They hadn't been together in a while and Grace decided it was time for them to catch up with each other. Of course that would involve mischief and crazy antics knowing Grace.
The couple hours they spent together were filled with crazy stories and antics and laughter. At one point the conversation took a slightly serious turn but it didn't last long.
After they left Leigh retired to bed early. She hoped to get a peaceful good night's sleep because she planned to get up early to start her Christmas cooking. Before she fell asleep she texted her parents, sisters and closest friends asking if they wanted to come to her's on Christmas Eve for a small party. They all replied saying they'd be there. The gears in her mind already began turning, thinking about what she was going to make.
