The fourth of July fell on a Saturday and it was very hot. A few days earlier Evan had run an electrical line and installed an outdoor ceiling fan on the porch. Del had also purchased a powerful fan that would generate some more air when they were outside. They strung some clear twinkle lights to add some festivity and decided they looked so good they'd just leave them up all the time. They had planned the barbeque with Jenny and Dan for later in the afternoon and Evan had told Del that the town put on a fireworks display each year that would be visible from the porch.
It had been several years since Del had seen fireworks or even celebrated Independence Day and she was feeling excited to be spending the afternoon and evening with her soon-to-be husband and her new friends.
While Evan had suggested simple burgers and potato chips, Del of course had taken it a bit further. They had gone to the market and bought some really good quality ground beef and Del had mixed it with fresh garlic, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, crisp bacon and crumbled bleu cheese. She had made a homemade barbeque sauce and had fresh tomato, lettuce and onion to top the burgers with. She made a large green salad and they planned on roasting corn on the grill along with the burgers.
Del had admitted to herself that the side effects of the birth control pills were not getting any better at all, and in fact were a bit worse than before. She had decided that after the holiday she was going to call the doctor and try switching to a different brand. There had been a few times when she'd actually gotten physically sick over the last week or so and she didn't want to think about feeling like this while she was on her honeymoon. She hadn't said anything to Evan about it and had kept the detail of her getting sick from him because she didn't want him to worry about her or feel any more guilt that he wasn't taking responsibility for their birth control.
Del was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on the dessert for the day when she heard Evan come in. He had driven into town to fill a couple of coolers with ice, beer and bottled water and to buy some extra bags of ice in case they needed them.
He put the bags of ice into the chest freezer in the laundry room and came over to the kitchen counter where she was working. "That looks delicious," he said, indicating the dessert.
It was a summer berry trifle with strawberries, blackberries and raspberries with homemade vanilla custard, sponge cake and whipped cream. She finished arranging the last layer of berries on top. "Thank you," she said. She turned to him and kissed him. He was wearing the aftershave she loved, a simple clean scent. "Mmm. You smell good."
"And you look incredible," he said, eyeing her appreciatively. She was dressed in dark blue shorts and had layered red and white tank tops with spaghetti straps for a festive look. He couldn't take his eyes off her breasts, which looked fuller in the snug tank tops. Her cleavage was always appealing to him but was especially pronounced in her current outfit.
She was aware of what he was looking at and laughed. "Evan Drake, sometimes you are such a guy. I know they look huge. It's from the pills."
Evan raised his eyebrows. "I thought it was just the shirt," he said. "Are you saying this is a permanent change?"
"Well, they're definitely bigger," Del said. "But I don't know if that will last or not. Is that important to you?" she asked him, smiling.
"Your breasts are perfect, no matter what size they are," Evan said. "Although, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on them right now..."
"I wouldn't mind it, either," she said, pushing him away. "But we don't have time. Jenny and Dan will be here soon. Let's get the table set up."
Evan sighed. "Okay."
