On Sunday, Del was exhausted. Given the fact that she and Evan had made love twice more before finally falling asleep last night and then again this morning before getting up for church, Del figured it was normal. Throw in the little party yesterday and being out in the heat all afternoon, she figured it was even likely.
When they returned from church, Evan made them a light brunch of egg white and mushroom omelets with salad leftover from the party. They sat at the little kitchen table eating, but halfway through her omelet, Del lost her appetite.
"Is your omelet okay?" Evan asked, noticing she wasn't eating it.
"It's delicious," Del said honestly. "I guess I'm just worn out from yesterday. I'm just not hungry. In fact, I feel like a nap."
"Don't let me stop you," Evan said. "I was going to repair the screens on the windows in here and replace the hinges on the back door. I can keep busy for a while if you need to rest."
Del got up and leaned down to kiss him. "Thanks," she said. "I think I'll take you up on that."
"I'll take care of the dishes," he said. "Just go lie down. Do you need anything?"
"I'm just going to get some water," she told him. "Just don't let me sleep more than an hour or I'll never get to sleep tonight."
"I'll check on you in an hour and if you're not awake, I will wake you," he promised then got that look in his eyes. "Do you have a preference as to how I wake you?"
Del smiled back at him. "You know what I like," she said then turned around and walked out of the room.
She went into the bedroom and closed the door then suddenly ran for the bathroom where she lost her breakfast and what little she'd eaten for brunch. That's it, she thought. The doctor's office will be closed tomorrow since the holiday was Saturday, but I am calling Tuesday and changing pills. She brushed her teeth, used the toilet, then took off her clothes. She pulled the shades down and crawled under the blankets. The room was cool and dark and she dozed off almost immediately.
Evan did indeed know what she liked and when she woke and hour later it was to the sweet pleasure of his mouth on her breasts and his hand between her legs. It was almost an hour more when they rose from the bed and got dressed.
Del felt much better now and found she was starving. She went into the kitchen and fixed another glass of iced water with lemon while she looked through the refrigerator and pantry for something to eat, but nothing was appealing to her. "Evan," she called out.
"Yeah," he said, entering the kitchen. "What's up?"
"I'm hungry for Mexican food," she said.
Evan looked at his watch. It was only 2:30. "Now?" he asked.
She nodded. "I know it's early," she said, "but if we get ready and go into the city, it'll be almost four. We could have an early dinner and then rent a movie for later."
Evan shrugged. "If that's what you want," he said. "Let me put my tools away and put on some different clothes."
"Take your time," Del said, biting into an apple. She held it up. "This will fill me up for a while. I'm going to change, too."
Half an hour later, they were off to the city to the same Mexican restaurant they had eaten at before. Del ordered chile rellanos and Evan had chicken enchiladas. They each ordered fried ice cream for dessert. Del ate every bite of her food and dessert and had taken a few bites of Evan's as well.
