Chapter twenty-one

Reagan

I sat outside of Daisy's apartment, waiting impatiently for her to come home. It was almost nine-thirty. Where the hell was she? I'd been out here for a good half hour or so. People who walked by were giving me alarmed looks, and it almost made me wish I had brought my badge so that way they wouldn't think I was some stalker waiting on a single woman to get home from her date with another man. A man who didn't even deserve to be in her presence. What if she brought him up here with her? What if she didn't come home at all? What if she stayed the night with him?

I was going mad thinking about all of these different scenarios when the sound of the elevator at the end of the hall opening caught my attention. Legs. Lots of fucking legs. Daisy stepped off of the elevator looking like a damn goddess. That red dress she had on made every curve she had visible to the naked eye. Her hair was hanging down in big, bouncy curls that framed her beautiful face. And then her legs...fuck, her legs. She was wearing goddamn black heels. Oh, the things I could do to her with those heels on her pretty feet.

Her eyes locked on mine as she made her way towards me. The smile she'd been wearing as she'd stepped off the elevator disappeared when she saw me. She walked and came to a stop a few feet away from where I was. Her arms crossed over her chest, making the tops of her tits poke out from the her neckline. Damn, this woman was going to kill me slowly.

"What are you doing here?" The clipped tone she used did not go unnoticed.

"How was the date?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm dripping from my mouth. She rolled her eyes and stepped past me to get to her door. She rummaged through her purse to find her keys, and I came and stood behind her much like I had the last time I'd been in front of her apartment door. The way I was angled gave me a clear view down the front of her dress from over her shoulder, too.

"None of your business. I told you to stay away from me." After I was able to drag my eyes away from her teasing cleavage, I studied what parts of her I was allowed to see. Her hair, her neck, her back. The brown curls were parted on both sides of her neck so that the entire center of her neck and between her shoulder blades were exposed. I'd never wanted to kiss a woman's skin as much as I did right then. I also wanted to turn her sexy ass around so that I could press her against this wall, and kiss her lips like she was oxygen and I was dying of suffocation. I planted my fists firmly at my sides and balled them up tightly to keep from touching her.

"Did you get my note?" She stopped searching for her keys, and turned around slowly. She was so close. Those full, plump lips were only a few inches away from mine.

"Yes, I got your stupid, self-centered note that is not true, by the way." She turned back around and I inhaled her sweet scent of coconuts and wine. I was so incredibly thankful when she'd found her keys and unlocked the door because that caused her to step away from me and enter her apartment.

"Isn't it, though?" I smirked and hurried past her to get behind the door before she could refuse me.

"What the hell are you doing?! Get out!" I studied the walls and the décor of the room. The walls were grey with various wall fillers such as random pieces of artwork and quotes. There was a picture of her with a number of people I didn't recognize, except for Jimmy. Daisy was smiling in that picture, and a part of me wanted to take it home and put it on my bedside table so that I could see it everyday before I went to work. Her smile had a way of making everything seem so alive and good.

"You didn't answer my question, Daisy May. How was your date?" She closed the door and threw her purse down onto the table while letting out a frustrated sigh.

"My date was wonderful. Corey is a nice guy, in fact, he's perfect. He makes me laugh, makes me happy, and he's easy to talk to. He kissed me not once but five times tonight, which was amazing. But out of all of those things, what I loved the most was the fact that he wasn't full of himself, and I didn't want to ram his head into a damn wall!" She was breathing heavily after that mouth full of words. Her chest moved up and down quickly as she struggled to catch her breath and regain control. She was mad at me. That should make me ashamed of myself, but it didn't. It made me want to laugh so hard that my stomach hurt.

"He kissed you?" She raised her eyebrows, straightened her back, and crossed her arms.

"Yes, he did, and it was the best kiss I've ever had." That was my undoing. Without any hesitation or thought to what I was doing, I stepped forward, grabbed her face, and pressed my lips firmly to hers.

Daisy

Oh. My. God. He was kissing me. Reagan Swallows was kissing me. On the mouth. I knew that I should push him away and tell him to leave, but where Reagan was concerned, I was weak. I closed my eyes and let his lips part mine slowly. I opened for him and felt my back hit the door. His grip on my face tightened before the kiss deepened into something more. His tongue touched mine and I was lost.

I hadn't been lying when I had said that Corey's kiss was the best I'd ever had...until now. Corey's kisses had been calm, secure even. They had made me comfortable in their kindness and admiration. Reagan's kiss was totally different. Reagan's kiss was dangerous. It was the type that you thought only existed in those erotic novels people read. Where I'd felt safe in Corey's lips, I felt complete uncertainty in Reagan's mouth and tongue. And I liked it. No, I loved it, but it was as if there was more than danger in Reagan's kiss. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, though.

Reagan pressed himself against my chest tightly and continued to taste every part of my mouth. His hands slid down my arms and planted themselves firmly on my waist. I was so thankful for that because his hands and this door were the only things keeping me on my feet right now. These heels weren't helping, either. I'd wrapped my arms around his neck for more support, but my legs were powerless under him. His left hand ran down my thigh and picked it up to wrap it around his waist. Oh God, that felt so good. The tingle that started between my legs whenever Reagan was around me was now a throb. Like if I didn't get enough pressure then it would hurt even more. A moan escaped the back of his throat and into my mouth. He bit my bottom lip and I gasped from the feeling of his teeth and the pressure of something hard against my lower body.

And then as if he had been sprayed with cold water, he sprang away from me. We were both breathing heavily and trying to make sense of what just happened.

"Pull your skirt down," he told me, but the way he said it made it sound more like a command. I adjusted the part of my dress that had ridden up just below my sacred area, and stepped aside to open the door.

"I think you should leave now." He looked at me, and I could still see the small fires in his eyes when he looked at me. The throbbing was back again. He took the steps needed to cross the room and walk out the door, but he paused before completely stepping out of the frame. He looked down at me and smirked before speaking in a voice that was low and husky.

"Now, who is the best kiss you've ever had?" He walked out into the hall and I shut the door behind him. And just like that, Reagan Swallows could make me swoon and then mentally swear in under five minutes.
