Two years ago at an abandoned canning factory in Chicago.
"Don't hurt Derek he had nothing to do with this." Josh Bayley was sitting next to his son, on his knees, awaiting their deaths. "Please he's only sixteen he still has a lot to learn." Mister Bayley was pleading for the life of his eldest son.
"You broke the rules Mister Bayley. You brought your son with you on a confidential mission and told him the secrets of our kind before you knew if he has the abilities." The tall man with a crooked nose said.
"It's been in my family for generations there's no way he doesn't have it." Mister Bayley had a black eye and a broken wrist.
The stern man walked circles around Josh and Derek Bayley but soon knelt in front of Derek. "We can make a deal Derek...I'll let you live but the next year of your life, until you turn seventeen, isn't going to be easy. You'll be on twenty four hour watch and you will live your life lying about what happened to your dear father."
"Deal." Josh Bayley answered before Derek even had the chance to think. "I can't die knowing I killed my son."
"Very good Mister Bayley. Do you have anything left to say to your son before you loose your head?" The man's stubby assistant brought him a machete.
Josh Bayley looked into his sons crying eyes. "Derek I want you to know how strong you are and I hate myself for getting you into this. Take care of your mother and the twins." He was now crying himself. " I love you son please forgive me." Those were the last words of Josh Bayley before his head rolled across the floor right in front of his son.
"You." The man was looking at Derek now. "You will tell people your dad died on a train headed toward your hotel room."
"But there wasn't a train crash." Derek was confused and full of anger. Every news station would talk about a train accident.
"Not yet."
