The letter informing James of the the death of his parents came on a Tuesday. Death eaters had raided their house, nothing could have been done.

The whole Gryffindor table is silent, James Potter is crying. Lily Evans is holding is hand and Sirius Black is glaring at the snickering Slytherins.

"Hey, James, do you want to go back to bed or something?" Lily's sweet voice is wary, she doesn't want to say anything wrong, doesn't want to trigger another string in his heart.

James' heads nods minutely, Lily and Sirius exchange a look of sadness. Neither of them have ever seen James cry. Lily takes James' hand and leads him up to his dormitory.

"Do you want to talk about it?" They are lying on James' bed, soft music streaming out of the muggle radio.

"I'm worried that Sirius will give up on adults. Every single adult that he has ever been close has left him." Salty tears are now sliding down James' tanned cheeks.

"Well, I guess he will just have to have faith in the next generation of adults. That's us, and we can't let him have any reasons to not have faith in us." The ghost of a smile hovers over James' mouth.

"You're perfect, you know that?"

"I learn from the best," Lily kisses James softly on the cheek before standing up. "I'll be back."

James lies back down onto his back. Remembering.

Flashback

"Come on James, you can do it!" The sparkling eyes of Fleamont Potter look down into James' eyes. "Don't give up now. You are nearly there," James is hanging from the monkey bars, there is one more rung left before he reaches the platform.

"But Dad, I'm tired. And I'm hungry and there are people watching me.

"So give them something amazing to look out. Don't give up, ever. Not if you're tired, not if you're hungry. Let those feelings spur you on, when you're finished then you can eat and sleep and play." Those encouraging words help James to find the strength to carry himself to the platform, still hungry, still tired but now completely and utterly happy with himself.

End of flashback.

Lily is back now, carrying a box. "How are we young James," she giggles as James looks at her slyly. "I've got candles and chocolate. Good?" James nods excitedly. Lily walks around the room slowly, placing candles at random and lighting them with her wand.

"Chocolate?" James sounds like a little child when he is demanding chocolate.

"Of course," for the next hour James and Lily lie silently, munching on chocolate, in each other's arms.

"Hey James?" Lily's voice is barely a whisper but it still makes a shiver run down James' spine.

"Yeah?"

" Do you want to meet my parents? I understand if you don't but I would really appreciate and they have heard so much about you and probably think you don't exist." Lily snuggles closer up onto James' chest, his chin resting in her head.

" I would love to, really,"

James' lips rest on Lily's bright hair. His hands are resting gently on her stomachs, fiddling restlessly with the hem of her T-shirt.

"James, are you right there?" James answers by slipping his hand up her shirt and resting above her belly button. Lily giggles and turns over, they are chest to chest, nose to nose, heart to heart. "I love you, James."

"Good, because I love you too," James' lips are now pecking all over Lily's face. Her eyes, her cheek, her hair, her chin. And finally, when he feels like it, he kisses her pink lips.

Lily sighs in relief and relaxes into the kiss.

"Prongs!!!!!!" The demanding cry of Sirius flies up the stairs quickly followed by his heavy footsteps. The door swings open to reveal a flushed Sirius Black.

"Yes dearest Sirius?" Sirius is taking in the situation. Lily on top of James, a small smirk on her face, James with only one visible hand.

"Woops," Sirius runs hurriedly down the stairs, looking back every second just to check that what he sees is real. Finally, after years of dreaming James Potter has gotten Lily Evans into his bed, surrounded by candles. "Wow!"
