Being home with Leon felt so different. It was no longer Carter and I that were in the house and need protected. It was him sleeping in his nursery with us only being across the hall that need more protection now he was here. Every slightest noise made either inside the house or outside the house, had Carter up and going to him to ensure he was okay.

He was just being a protective father and I got that. I'm the same during the day when Carter's not in the house or when he's in the office at home, dealing with important maters that need his urgent attention and couldn't wait.

Over the course of six weeks, Leon had changed so much and so had my relationship with Carter. Carter was still sweet and caring towards me, don't get me wrong, but he became more protective and caring towards me.

When he started back to work two weeks after Leon was born, he always cut his day short so he was able to be home before the usual finishing time of five at night. He always checked in on me during his free time and always asked how Leon was. The answers I give him were always the same: "He's sleeping", "He's just been fed" or "I'm trying to feed him".

It was sweet how caring he'd become over his only child. Leon also had his own bodyguard which Carter demanded on having. His bodyguard always kept watch outside the house in a black Range Rover, along with the other bodyguard Carter hired to protect me. If we wanted to go anywhere, Phillip was on-call to take us even if Carter needed him.

Everything just changed and it wasn't until one specific day that everything really did change for all of us.

Holding Leon safely in my arms, I walk up the stairs to the master bedroom to see Carter after he came storming into the house without even coming to check on us like he normally did. He never did that. I ease the bedroom door open with on hand and walk into the room.

"Carter," I call, sensing he was close even though the room was empty. A rummaging sound coming from his walk-in wardrobe got my sudden attention. I turn and walk towards the opened door that sat at the furthest away side of the room. "Carter."

I stand by the opened door and watch my husband as he searches through rows of clothes and piles of neatly folded jeans. His hair's a mess and not neatly styled back like it normally is when he got home from work. His suit jacket bunched up at the sleeves as he reached for stuff and stayed that way when he stopped reaching for stuff.

"Sarah, I can't really talk right now," he responds, pulling a suitcase down from the top of one of the shelves and sitting it on the floor.

"What are you doing?" I query, my voice coming out with a slight shake to it.

"Sarah, I can't tell you." He breathes heavily. He pulls a few pair of jeans from the shelves and dumps them onto the floor.

"Carter, I'm your wife. I have a right to know." I take a step inside the wardrobe, adjusting Leon in my arms so he didn't start to fuss. "Tell me."

He pulls a few t-shirts from their hangers and drops them onto the floor. "I can't."

"Yes, you can. A wife has the right to know what her-"

"Sarah, it's because you're my wife that I can't tell you!" He snaps, his face turning to look at me and anger clouding his perfect eyes.

I swallow before he starts pulling more clothes from their hangers. "If you tell me, maybe I could help."

"This matter can't be helped, Sarah. It can't be fixed either." He stops pulling things from their places and shakes his head with a sigh. "It can't be anything."

"Carter," I step towards him one step at a time, stepping over the items that crowded the floor. "Tell me. If not for me, then our son."

I hear him take several deep breathes before he turns on the spot and grabs a hold of the top of my arm. My eyes widen as he pulls me out the wardrobe and over to sit on the bed. I move Leon to rest more on my lap now I was sitting and Carter kneels down in front of us.
