Chapter Eight

I AM SO SO SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG I KNOW I ALWAYS SAY THAT BUT I HAD REALLY IMPORTANT EXAMS AND I NEEDED TO REVISED AND AFTER REVISON I JUST FELT SO TIRED AND I DIDN'T WANT TO WRITE SOME RUBBISH JUST SO I UPDATE ON TIME, AND I KNOW I SAID I WAS GOING TO UPDATE ON FRIDAY BUT MY MUM BROUGHT ME AN IPHONE FOR MY EXAMS AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF IT, I AM SO SORRY

Luke's POV

"What did you want to tell me?" I asked Beau referring to earlier as I reluctantly put Harmony back in her incubator. She'd fallen asleep after I fed her and I held her for about an hour until the nurse came back in and said she needed to go back.

"Come with me and I'll show you" Beau replied

"Okay, just wait one second." I said as I spread the patchwork blanket Nonna had given me over Harmony. Nonna told me years ago that each one of the patches had come from important items of clothing in our family, like wedding dresses or just patches of handmade material. I smoothed down the edges and then tucked the rabbit Jai gave her under the blanket next to her. I made sure everything was completely fine then shut the side of the incubator.

I turned around and Beau stood up. I quickly picked up my rucksack containing my phone, some food a bottle of water and various other things seeing as I was here at the hospital 24/7.

I followed Beau out of the room and down the route to Jai's room etched on my brain since I'd walked it so many times.

Beau opened the door and the scene that greeted me was different to the usual one. Mum was sat right next to Jai's bed and she had a huge smile on her face, she was leaning over Jai very closely, and then I looked at Jai.

He was awake.

His eyes were open but they were red and had huge bags underneath them, he was leaning on a stack of pillows that were the only things keeping him in an upright position.

"Mu...u" Jai said in a tiny voice

"I'm here Jai" Mum said

Jai continued trying to say Mum but could only really get the letter M out, after a few attempts I could see he was getting really frustrated.

"Come on Jai, it doesn't matter, you can try again tomorrow" Mum said softly taking Jai's hand in hers, but he just pushed her away and started to try and get his neck brace off.

"No Jai, you've got to leave that on for a little while" Mum said pulling his hand away, but Jai just ignored her and carried on with his other hand. Mum reached over the bed and pulled that one away too.

"No Jai" Mum said sternly like she was talking to a three year old "I know it's not comfortable but it's doing you a lot of good" Mum said sounding softer, but you could still her the slight annoyance in her voice.

Beau moved away from the doorway and took a seat in the corner of the room. I followed behind him and quietly shut the door. As I took my seat I looked up and saw Jai had locked eye contact with me. I looked back at him also making eye contact, but he wasn't the same. I couldn't see anything, he was completely blank.

He looked away from me then back at Mum,

"Who?" He said quietly

"That's Beau and that's Luke, they're your brothers" Mum explained having to point at us both.

Beau looked at me sadly as Jai tried to say something to Mum but failed.

This was my worst nightmare. All of the memories Jai and I shared were all gone, he didn't even remember who I was.
