Amber never told anyone about the blackmail. It wasn't necessary. She didn't talk to Newt throughout her 5th and 6th year. Which was amazing considering that, since her fight with him, her feelings for him had grown significantly...

"Hey. Amber. How was your summer?"

I pull my head away from the window and look at Leta. My summer was OK. If you don't count the many days I spent in my pyjamas with some chocolate ice cream, looking out my bedroom window thinking of Newt.

I wish I could go back to the time before fourth year. The year everything changed. The year everything went wrong.

"Um yeah, my summer was OK." I say unconvincingly. Leta narrows her eyes at me.

"How have you been dealing with the Newt drama?"

"Please don't say his name." I reply.

"I knew it! You miss him don't you?"

I know my face displays guilt. I see Leta smile at me triumphantly.

"Maybe I should have sat in the Prefect carriage after all."

Leta rolls her eyes and smiles.

"Why don't you try to get back together again?" She asks.

"I don't know if he wants me back." I answer, truthfully.

"Honestly Amber, all you have to do is read his mind. Then you'll know."

"But what if I don't like what I find?"

"You'll never know if you don't try."

I lean against my hand. Leta's right. I need to read his mind. But I'm too scared that I might not like what I find.

"So, are you going to tell me about your experiment?" I ask, changing the subject.

"Not yet." Leta replies with a smile.

I roll my eyes. Knowing Leta, I should find out soon enough.

Soon, Hogwarts comes into view. It's hard to believe that it's my final year at Hogwarts. I follow Leta off the train and to a magical carriage. A few other students get on including Newt. Newt! I look at him but he looks away.

Despite the darkness, I can see one single, solitary tear roll down his face. He still cares! I think. The carriage pulls us to Hogwarts and I can't stop thinking about Newt and the tear.
