Everyday after school I'm so used to going straight home and doing my homework. Today I decided to go over my friend Aaliyah's house. Besides I don't want to be at home as long as mommy's boyfriend is there. Aaliyah lived only 5 minutes from the school which was even better. I've always wanted to see what her house looked like for the longest!
"Hey Aaliyah" I said as I was walking towards her in the lunch room.
"Hey Raven, come sit over here" She motioned to me.
I sat down next to her and began to eat the peanut butter and jelly sandwich mommy packed for me.
"I'm still coming to your house after school right?" I asked.
"Of course you are silly, why wouldn't you?" Aaliyah began to laugh lightly.
"I just wanted to make sure". I replied while taking a bite of my sandwich.
"So have you been working on Ms.Johnson's project?" Aaliyah asked.
"Yeah I have, but I'm not even close to being finished yet" I replied back.
"You better hurry it's due next week. I'm almost finish with mine." She sat and thought for a minute. "You just want to finish your project over at my house?" She suggested.
"Sure, maybe I'll get it done" I said almost in a sad tone.
"What's the matter?" Aaliyah looked at me.
I put my peanut butter and jelly sandwich down and just looked down at it. I started thinking about mommy's boyfriend and all the moments of me being violated rushed into my head.
"Oh nothing" I brushed off the question.
"Are you sure? It looks like you were thinking about something".
"Yeah, I'm sure. So what did you do your project on?
"I did it on Rosa Parks, something simple. My mom is helping me with some of it though". Aaliyah told me.
"Well at least your mom is helping you with yours. My mom started helping me, but she's starting to work late nights and hasn't been able to help me out lately" I said to Aaliyah as I was taking another bite of my sandwich.
"Oh man that sucks. Hopefully you'll get it done at my house. Will your mom be able to pick you up or do you need my mom to drop you back off home?" Aaliyah asked.
"Hopefully my mom will be getting off a little early and can pick me up" I replied back.
"Okay cool" Aaliyah began eating her lunch and so did I.
As I sat there eating my mind started wondering into a different place and I couldn't stop thinking about mommy's boyfriend. Everything was perfectly fine before he came into the picture. Why did this have to happen to me? Did I do something wrong? Did I say something? Does my mom still love me? I kept questioning myself hoping that I would come up with an answer, but nothing. Nothing could answer these things that were happening to me. I finished my lunch, but sat in my chair thinking just thinking.
"HELLO!! RAVEN!!" Aaliyah yelled in my ear.
"Huh?" I jumped up not knowing that she has been calling my name for the past 2 minutes.
"Girl what is wrong with you?" She questioned me. "You know something is bothering you. You seem so spacey".
"No. No. I'm fine. Just a lot has been going on lately that's all" I reassured her.
"Well you could've fooled me by the way you're acting" She told me.
"I'm good" I tried to make a fake laugh.
