"I'm home" I called as I walked in from school.
"In the study" dad called. Oh no. The study meant one thing- there had been another attack.I quickly took my shoes off and rushed to the study. My parents stood around a map of earth, with pins marking all the poison attack sites.
"We're sorry Rachel. Really, I know this will upset you but-"
"No" I interrupted. "I'm not moving again! It's man made, there's no pattern, we're not in danger!" My parents glanced at each other.
"Ok... well just be careful. If someone gets poisoned there's no antidote" Mom said softly.
Her words took me by surprise. They never gave in so easily, if at all. I narrowed my eyes. "Umm, ok. I'm gonna go do homework". I made my way up to my room and plopped on my bed.
My eight year old brother Jasper peeked in.
"Hi Rachel!" I smiled and waved for him to come and sit with me.
"Hey bud". He looked up at me with wide brown eyes, just like mine.
"Are we gonna move? I just made new friends". I gave him a reassuring smile.
"Not this time". He hugged me and quietly left.I called my BFFs Indy, Lizzy, and Paisley. I told them all about what my parents said.
"I'm sure it's nothing. Adults always act weird" Indy reassured me. The others agreed and I hung up.Setting my phone on my bed, I laid down at an angle on the ground so I could hear through the heating vent. I had to know if anything was up, my parents were acting super weird. I pulled my thick medium length brown hair out of my face and listened.
"I don't think we should tell them. They would be devastated and Rachel acts impulsively sometimes" I heard dad say. They were talking about me! I pressed my ear back down.
"They deserve to know" mom was saying. Mom never wins an argument, which means they're going to keep a secret from me and Jasper.I couldn't take the pressure, I took a deep breath and kept listening.
"It's their grandparents, they have to know! When my grandparents died I was told immediately!"I gasped, pulling myself off the floor. I didn't want to hear any more. Silent tears poured down my face. My grandparents were so loving! They lived a long way away but always visit us.Why didn't they tell me?!?! I pulled a blanket off my bed and curled up on the floor. I never actually realized how bad this apocalypse is! I curled up and cried, wishing it would all go away.
