As soon as the bell signalling lunch came around, I flame-traveled to the Great Lake (also known as the Black Lake) and awaited the arrival of my old friend. While doing so, I willed the cloudy sky to become sunny and clear - didn't want it to rain on us, now did we? - and summoned a bit of food.

I waved my hand and summoned a red-and-white checkered picnic blanket, levitating it above the ground before dropping it. I put the food and such on top of the blanket as well.

"If I had known you would be putting an effort in, I would have cleaned up a bit," came a drawling voice behind me.

"Had I known you would be so sarcastic, I might have done the same," I retorted, turning around to face the so-called "dungeon bat" potions master.

The said man scoffed and - albeit a bit nervously - said, "Well, shall we get on with it? I'm sure we wouldn't want to be out here for too long..."

I hummed, silently mouthing the words to a silencing charm and a repellent charm (to get rid of anyone that wanted to come near here without consent) with a wave of my hand.

"You mustn't worry, Sev. Nobody nor nothing should come near here until that charm wears off. Besides, if dementors were to come near here, I'll make sure to tell them to take you first," I joked lightly, grinning at my companion while taking a seat on the blanket.

He joined me on the checkered cloth, his eyes narrowing. "Surely, after learning quite a bit of magic, you know enough to cast a Patronus Charm...?"

I sighed. "I do know how, but I haven't tried. And, I'm unsure whether or not I have a strong enough memory that would aid me in doing so," I explained, only to be met with silence.

Then, the silence was broken by Severus huffing, before he said, "I could teach it to you, if you'd like..."

There was no doubt that I was surprised by this sudden offer - especially by someone as "cold" and "cruel" as Severus Snape. But those words were based from how much of a "git" he was to students.

I gave the man a soft smile. "That would be very appreciated. Thank you, Sev," I said quietly, feeling my heart lift in joy.

We grabbed a few sandwiches, and Severus snatched a cheddar broccoli soup from the bottom of the basket. I rose an eyebrow in amusement, but didn't comment.

"So, anything interesting happen in the past year?" I questioned, taking a bite of my sandwich.

Severus paused to swallow a spoonful of soup, before replying, "Well, the Potter boy is apparently a Parselmouth, and he destroyed one of the Dark Lord's horcruxes, even though I'm not supposed to know. Plus, there were chicken murders and the Chamber of Secrets opened. The Potter boy killed a basilisk, and didn't even preserve anything from the body, which costs a fortune-"

Attempting to not burst out laughing, I placed a hand on Severus' arm. He fell silent, his eyes landing upon me.

"You're rambling, Sev," I said, a chuckle or two managing to slip past my lips.

He scowled. "I'm not rambling," he responded, his tone as sharp as the edge of a sword. "You asked what happened the past year; I simply gave you an answer."

I removed my hand, sighing, and finished my sandwich. "It's just me, Severus. You don't have to hide behind your masks," I soothed.

His expression softened, and he bowed his head. "I know," he murmured. "I'm still getting used to it."

Smiling softly, I stood, grabbing his hand to pull him up as well. I began to pull him toward the Forbidden Forest, wandlessly banishing the blanket, basket, and uneaten food to the shadows (as well as undoing the silencing and repelling charms).
