Chapter 4

<<FIRST DAY IN COURT>>

SHAWN'S POV

Today is our first day in court trying to solve this murder. The only suspect right now is Fern although his wife still is not showing her alibi from that night to show she was not close to the minder seen that night. 'Note to self, remind Kara that she needs that in by tomorrow otherwise she will become a suspect'.

I don't know what it is with her, but she always seems to have this look of guilt on her when I, or Fern look at her even though Fern should probably feel the most guilty. For 1 having an affair, not to mention starting this affair only 3 days after Kara and Jerry starting their honeymoon. And 2 being the last person known to the investigation to have seen and talked to Jerry alive.

Any time we ever brought up that night she would be the only one to burst out crying, and it was becoming very evident that something was wrong here since the wife, or should I say widow, barely had a second glance.

I think I need to put Kara under a lie detector test. I believe she is not fessing up to things that she knew about.

<<LIE DETECTOR TEST>>

SHAWNS POV

I start the test out by asking her simple questions and write down on a sheet of paper which ones I told her to lie on and which ones she told the truth. And it didn't seem to go quite well for her.

"What is your favorite color? and lie on this one."

"Pink"

"What did you have for breakfast, tell the truth"

"Cereal and a bagel"

"Okay. Now we are going to move on to the more complicated questions. Where were you the night of the murder?"

"I was at my hotel, the Hilton in Palm Beach, Florida in my bed."

"Did you know about Jerry's affair with Fern?"

"No sir, I did not. It all came as a great shock to me when I found out that that slut was the one who had found my husband."

"Were you aware that your husband was about to issue a divorce, and had even bought an engagement ring to Fern and had given it to her?"

I hear her gasp and take that as a no while she screams at me, "YOU SICK BASTARD! WHY WOULD YOU TELL ME THAT LIE! THERE WAS NOTHING IN OUR BANK ACCOUNT THAT SUGGESTED ANYTHING OF THE SORT!"

After her little rampage I removed the lie detector stuff from her arms and face and went to go deposit the results. I looked at the ones that were visible through the top and see that all of her answers had been lies. What else was she not telling me?
