Chapter 13

I opened my eyes the next morning to an unfamiliar room. There was a light breeze in my ear, tickling me as I looked out the balcony window at the bright blue sea.  White drapes flew away from the open balcony window letting subtle rays of light into the room, and I smiled at the simple beauty.

"Brittany," someone sang in my ear, breaking the silence.

I sighed contently and turned over in the fluffy bed I was in as I remembered where I was.  Damien lays next to me, his head turned towards me, completely dressed for the day to begin.

"Come on Brittany, it's almost noon, time to wake up," Damien whispered.

Damien pressed his palm to my cheek, his fingers latching behind my ears and in my hair and brushes his lips, ever so slightly, right between my eyebrows.  "Where are we?" I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.

"We are in my family’s penthouse in Santa Monica," he replies, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me against his body.  I tuck my head under his, feeling his warm breath over me.

Closing my eyes, I try and recall the events from last night.  I remembered being in the car for hours, but we were only an hour away from the club.  "Oh, happy birthday!" I exclaimed, remembering what today was and giving him an enthusiastic kiss.

"Thanks Britt, but if you really want to wish me a happy birthday you'll get your lazy ass out of bed!" He jumped out of bed, pulling me up with him, and led me to a suitcase. "Your clothes are in here.”

I looked down at myself, to see that I was wearing one of Damien’s shirts and I shot him a curious look.  Not that I was uncomfortable with the fact that Damien’s shirt didn’t completely cover my body, but because I definitely wasn’t wearing his shirt when I left the club.

“You were passed out when we got here so I just slipped my shirt over your dress and took your dress off.  That’s okay right? I mean I didn’t think it would really matter,” Damien shrugged, opening up the suitcase.

"Where did you get my clothes from?" I asked, fingering through the clothes in the suitcase.  “There must be a week’s worth of clothes in here.  We’re only going to be here for a few hours, aren’t we?”

"Your mom," he shrugged, leaving the room. "Hurry and get ready," he said, closing the door behind him.

Pulling all the clothes out, I recognized a few of my favorite outfits and laid them on the bed.  As I tossed everything aside, a white envelope with my name fell out and I curiously opened the envelope, sitting down on the bed, and pulled out a card.

Brittany,

Don't worry about a thing this week; we have arranged with Damien's parents to make sure Hayley is being taken care of. It's the first week of summer vacation, enjoy!

Love,

Mom and Dad

A whole week? Damien told me we were only going to be here for one day. I pulled out something else from the envelope wrapped in a post-it don’t spend too much it said. I unwrapped the post-it and saw a debit card in my name, the pin number written on the back of the post-it. This week was definitely going to be fun.

"Damien?" I called out, looking around the room. It had beige painted walls, one wall had a full length mirror placed next to the closet door, another wall was covered by a few small framed photographs of familiar landscapes, where two walls met there was a potted plant in the corner next to the balcony door and at the fourth wall a huge king sized bed with an exquisite headboard sat against the wall. The room was gorgeous and I still couldn't believe I was going to be staying her for a whole week.
