Prologue:
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a giant bubble, kind of like a Dome? That is what a whole town of kids had to do. There was no connection to the outside world, no adults, no rules... sounds like fun, right? Wrong. Nobody had fun in the dome, which they called "The FAYZ". The FAYZ stood for Fallout Alley Youth Zone. I guess that there might have been people who had fun in The FAYZ, maybe... like Drake, and the Giaphage, but they are a little further in my story, we'll get there eventually, just not now. Anyway, lets get to the point of my prologue, the telling of the main character, Faith, when she ran away, before the dome went up, before all hell broke loose.
It was a beautiful Friday morning... Wait a minute, I said that wrong, that's usually what a little kid book starts with in a book that has something like a bunch of children looking around for Easter eggs that the "Easter bunny" hid around the house or the yard. This story isn't even close to being about colorful eggs. Let me restart this...
It was a stormy Friday morning, the waves of the ocean crashed against the rocky shores of the island that Faith Brattle-Chance lived on. Yes, Faith knew she had a long last name, but her adoptive mom didn't want to give up her precious last name, so her adoptive parents combined their last names, to create the Brattle-Chance family. She knew she had a long last name, but she didn't care. She hated her parents anyway, and they hated her, so lets just say the hate was mutual. The only people she loved in her family are her brothers and sisters. Their names were Sanjit, Virtue, Bowie, Peace and Pixie. They aren't related to Faith by blood, but sometimes it seems like it to Faith.
Faith was sitting in her room, her ugly room, which was all pink. Her adoptive mom decorated her room all pink and frilly, too girly for her tastes. That doesn't mean she wasn't girly, she just wasn't that girly. Her mom would yell at her if she tried to decorate her room differently. Faith just wished she could change the color of her walls at least.
She was sitting at her window seat, which was the only part of her room she liked. She would always look out the window and see the beautiful skies, but not today, there was only rain and darkness in the sky. You are probably wondering why she wasn't at school. It was a Friday morning, after all. But Faith was homeschooled, and didn't start classes until 1:00pm. She looked through the rain and faintly saw the town she knew to be Perdido Beach. She wondered what it would be like to go somewhere other then this island that she has been on as long as she could remember. Her parents, well, adoptive parents have never let her leave the island, unless she was well hidden. It was almost like her "mom and dad" were ashamed of her or something. Oh how Faith would love to get off this island... no. She wouldn't leave without her siblings, and they would never come with her, they had no idea what has been going on between her and her parents, they were completely oblivious. Sanjit might have believed her, but he would never leave Virtue behind, and Virtue would never come...
Bam! Faith heard a door slam behind her and she flinched, and knew that the yelling would soon start, unless one of her siblings were nearby, close enough to this part of the mansion that they would hear the screaming coming from Faith's room. She held onto that hope for a few seconds, until it started.
"YOUNG LADY!!! I TOLD YOU THAT YOU HAD TO DO THE LAUNDRY BEFORE 9:00AM! DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS NOW? 9:34!! IF I ASK YOU TO DO SOMETHING, DO IT! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?" Faiths mom screamed at her as Faith shut her eyes tight. Faith had completely forgotten about the laundry. She turned away as a tear slid down her cheek. She hated getting yelled at, even though it happened so often.
