Faith's POV
"We have to escape together." Jayd said, letting out a breath she was holding.
My reaction was like you would think it would be, if you were normal, but I guess Jayd isn't normal.
"What the heck are you talking about?!" I stage-whispered, making sure nobody heard Jayd. "That would be suicide!"
"But Faith! We can do it! we just have to find the right time for it!" She exclaimed.
"No! What the hell Jayd! Never in a million ears would I be able to do that!" I shook my head over and over again, as fast as lightning, nearly nothing could convince me to even try to escape. I would have stayed here over being dead.
"Oh, come on! Do you really want to end up like them?" She gestured to everybody in the room with the cement on their hands? "Plus, we could get people like Dekka to be a distraction, she wouldn't be able to escape anyways."
I started to rethink my first thoughts about Jayd's proposition. I mean,it just might be possible to escape. It might be possible to escape.
"Fine." I knew I would regret this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe I am actually doing this. If I die I am going to kill Jayd. Our plan is so sketchy I can't even bare it. Jayd actually got Dekka and some other kid named Jonathan to play distraction while Jayd and I make a sneaky run for it. We are hoping no guards would be at the entrance doors but if they are our backup plan is the back door. I know, its a great plan. That was sarcasm by the way. Also, we have no idea where we will go.
Everyone is oblivious to our plan besides Jayd, Dekka, Jonathan and me. Dekka and Jonathan are far away at the other side of the room. The Cafeteria is huge so I couldn't see them.
I hear a loud bang from the other side of the room and the "guards" from outside the door run over there. While the door is open I see there are still guards there. It's wasn't enough. I hear another loud bang and the rest of the guards come in and start to run over there. Now. Jayd and I sneak over to the door very quickly and slip through the doorway while the door is still open so there would be no noise.
I look down both ends of the long hallway, but before I could go anywhere Dekka drags me away and goes left. I just hope she knows what she's doing.
We finally make it to the hallway that leads to the entrance, but there are guards blocking the way. We have to go out the back the other way.
"Technically there is no back door, but I know of a secret door near the back that wont be guarded." She says.
I nodded but quickly started back down the hallway with Jayd in tow.
I can't believe the emotions that are washing over me right now. I am scared to death, but at the same time the adrenaline is making me twitch for some odd reason. I feel sad that Dekka couldn't come, but I promised myself I would go back for her if I could. The happiness inside me is making me grin, and Jayd probably thinks I'm crazy, but when I look at her behind me, I see the same grin on her face. With all these emotions I felt like I would pass out. But I didn't.
We jog past a large puddle on the floor and I speed up, anxious to get out of this horrid place. And to think I am almost there.
I hear a small shreek and a splash behind me. But when I turn around I see something I never expected. It's Jayd. But there's more than that. The puddle of water is gone, and ice is surrounding her feet.
"Faith! It's your power! Water! You can control water! Unbelievable!" She says, starstruck. My eyes are wide, and I try not to throw up. I failed. Thank goodness I swallowed it. I know, that's disgusting right? "You have to unfreeze the ice now so we can leave."
"B-but I-I can't. I don't know how." I say, terrified of being unable to set my friend free.
"Yes you can, I know it. Just focus." She replies.
I close my eyes. I take a deep breath in, then let it out. I try to melt the ice, but when I open my eyes, The ice is still ice. It didn't work. I realize my mind is too jumbled, and I can't think straight. I need too clear my mind, even though that is pretty impossible right now, considering I just found out I have a power, a freaking power. I mean, I sort of knew before but it was a kind of thing where I have to see it to believe it, I didn't think It was true. But now I realize it really is true. I force myself to close my eyes again and clear my mind. I whisk away the thoughts of escaping from Caine, and throw the thoughts of my parents in the garbage. The only thing that remains in my head right now is the thought that I have to melt the ice with my new found powers. I focus really hard on the ice, and imagine it turning into a puddle of water again. When I open my eyes again I see that the ice has in fact been melted.
I quietly congratulate myself, but I know that we must move on if we don't want to be found. Jayd must realize this also since she starts jogging again and takes the lead.
We finally reach the place that Jayd was talking about earlier where we can exit the premises. She bends down and opens a tiny door that would have never noticed if Jayd wasn't there. She gestures for me to go through the door first.
As I walk through the small door I find out that it leads right outside. When I step outside and breathe in the fresh air, I feel a joy spreading through me. I just feel so happy inside. I start jumping around, not caring about anything.
When Jayd manages to calm me down, she takes a peek around the corner, and when she seems confidant that nobody was there that would follow us, she grabs my wrist and takes me into the forest.
We walk slowly for a few minutes, so we can make sure nobody is following us, but son Jayd stops me in my tracks. She asks me a very simple question, but it is a question that makes me think. "Where do we go now?" She asks.
