I watched Miut disappear and was about to follow her when someone grabbed my wrist. A shock slashed through my body and I spun around to glare at the person who dared stop me but the glare soon melted away."Stay here," The mysterious blonde stared down at me, his grey eyes darkening as they kept me in place. Every fibre of me seemed to wake up and tune in on him.
"But she's my best friend..." I found my voice, shifting myself to face him as my insides hummed in approval and I felt the urge to move closer. I felt myself begin to go red as I realised how I actually liked his scent as soon as I could smell it.
"You shouldn't mix with her kind. You belong with us." He made a disgusted expression and turned his eyes to where Miut had disappeared to, but then his eyes were back on me with an interested expression on his face.
"Her kind?" I frowned and despite my feelings to stay with him in a cocoon of his attention, my hackles raised. "I honestly didn't expect you to be one of those guys." I glared and ripped my wrist out of his hand. "It's the 21st century, asshole." I stomped away, leaving him staring at me surprised and confused.
Fuming I searched for Miut, my senses still hyped from the interaction in between the hot jerk. I turned into the bathroom and felt my body relax, sensing her in one of the stalls.
"Miut?" I knocked on the middle stall and peered underneath, seeing her curled up on the toilet seat.
She looked up at me, her big golden eyes glistened with unshed tears. I shivered slightly as her pupils widened, shaking my head as my imagination interpreted her pupils were slits before I came. Her eyes had always played with my imagination, the colour flashing as if it was molten gold at times. Her caramel skin and her natural tan disappeared. I slid under the door into the stall and gave her a hug.
"Thank you." She whispered after she managed to calm down.
"What happened?" I asked when I felt her calming.
"I don't know." She frowned and fiddled with her ponytail, braiding her ebony black hair as she concentrated. "It was like the nightmares."
"Are you still getting them?" I frowned. Miut looked up briefly and nodded slowly. I sighed and clenched my jaw in frustration.
Miut had been getting the same nightmare for two years now since her 16th birthday. It was about being bitten and clawed by a pack of dogs who chased her howling and barking. It would leave her drenched in sweat and crying when she woke up. She hasn't had a good night's sleep since then.
That and once she woke up screaming, her stepdad got really angry that when she came to school, her cheek was slightly bruised and she was limping despite her best efforts to hide it.
My blood grew hot at the thought and I clenched my fists, a growl climbing its way up my throat. I managed to swallow it back down, but the image of ripping his throat out with my teeth seemed to satisfy the anger mounting up. I was shaken by the response to the thought, and shook the image out of my head, feeling rather shameful but not regretful.
"Well don't worry. We'll skip the rest of the classes today and have a great chill session. Hopefully we won't have any classes with those jerks." I tried to cheer her up and rolled my eyes playfully, causing a small smile to be coaxed out of her. "Okay," she replied and got to her feet. I was instantly reminded how much taller I was to her and felt protective as if she was my blood sister.
"How about some ice cream then a movie? Then go ice skating and see if we can get us some boyfriends?" I grinned and wiggled my eyebrows.
"Sounds like a great plan." Miut chuckled and hooked our arms together.
I fell on my bed with an exhausted sigh and laid there for a bit before the mouth-watering smell of pizza drifted towards me. I jumped up and dashed downstairs, the exhaustion of the day disappearing immediately.
"DAD! Why didn't you tell me we have pizza?" I yelled and barrelled into the kitchen, my eyes hungrily searching for the food before my brothers got to it first.
"The pizza isn't here yet, numbskull." Eric rolled his eyes and walked past me to the fridge and took out a bottle of sparkling water. His twin, Ethan, grabbed a bottle out of the air just as Eric threw one over his shoulder.
"But I can smell it. Are you guys hiding it?" I glared at the twins and walked to the microwave, checking to see if it as there.
"Selene, you are definitely losing it." Ethan shook his head at me slowly, an apologetic expression on his face.
"What's this about Selene losing something?" a deep chuckled sounded behind me and Dad smiled at me in amusement.
"Selene is smelling pizza that doesn't exist." The twins replied simultaneously and I shivered at how they were so connected at times it was as if they were one person.
"It does exist. I can smell it." I growled at them, glaring. I took in the scent and could taste the scent on the air. "It's two Something Meaty with cheddar and garlic covered in sweet and sour BBQ sauce pizzas and another two Ribs and Steak Galore with extra cheese." I stated, my anger spiking as I felt my stomach growl in hunger. I took another painfully tasteful breath and opened my eyes accusingly at the boys, not knowing that I had a hungry look etched into my features. "And a side of dunked buffalo wings. 15 of them."
As soon as I had finished my description, the doorbell rang followed by a knock. Ethan went to answer it and I looked at Dad who had a very worried expression as he took in what I said. Ethan appeared at the door way with four boxes of large pizzas perfectly balanced on his right hand and a medium bucket in his left arm.
"Looks like you were right, Sis." Eric gave me a raised eyebrow as we opened the boxes and I grabbed my pieces, feeling ravenous. I skipped up the steps and gave three quick raps on the only green door in the house.
It opened slightly before Blain, the youngest of us four, peeked out. His hair was ruffled and looked as though he hadn't slept for a couple of days. He yawned and rubbed his eye under his nerd glasses.
"Yes Selene?" he spoke quietly but I could hear his voice slightly rasping.
"Food's downstairs, Blain." I managed to say in between mouthfuls and recognized his nod before disappearing into my room.
I put my plate down by my desk and laid on my back, staring up at the scene Miut had painted on the ceiling. The painting was one of my favourite birthday presents she had given to me.
It was as if I was in the forest, surrounded by those pine trees with the full moon suspended in the air and within my grasp. The constellations were also in their correct positions in correlation to where we were if we looked up. The paintjob itself was amazing along with the perfect mixture of midnight blue and dark blue in combinations, it was strange to think that at the age of 15, she could've done this.
But as I focused, I began to see small cracks appear by the moon's edges. The paint was beginning to chip and would soon peel.
"Good night silver moon." My gaze drifted to the edge of the ceiling where Miut had hastily signed her name. By the look of it, her hand was wobbling when she signed her name.
By that thought, my mind came crashing back to when the mysterious blond took my wrist. My breathing stuttered as I recalled the feeling, my heart fluttering and my cheeks blossomed.
But he's a jerk, my head argued. I bit my lip and tried to get him out of my head, but it was as if her was permanently tattooed on my brain. Memories of his smile, his confused expression and those stormy grey eyes replayed over and over.
A hot flush travelled through my body which was followed by a pain full cramp throughout all my muscles. I groaned and curled in a foetal position, wishing that sleep would come so that I could escape his ghost that haunted my thoughts and the pain that struck my body.
