Selene

I blinked slowly, the pain slightly subsiding. I felt so safe, so warm that I didn’t want to wake up fully yet. Instinctively I snuggled closer to the person holding me, not wanting to leave yet. I breathed in deeply and froze. That scent... I opene  d my eyes and caught two soft grey eyes watching me, a tenderness I wouldn’t have expected.

“What the do you think you’re doing?” I growled and shoved Finn away from me, unfortunately that was impossible to do and he just pulled me closer towards him. Strangely I let him hold me for a second longer before I heard the stomping in the house.

“Finn, she made a jump for it and was temporarily disabled. But Alpha Wolff is refusing to let us capture her.” The guy from Math who usually wasn’t far from Finn came forward, his eyebrow raised at us together and I shoved Finn back. This time he let go of me and clenched his jaw, his tenderness lost from his eyes.

“Every member is to keep the perimeter. No one leaves.” He barked and headed to the backyard where only a white fence separated the forestry from our property. “She won’t escape us.”

“No!” I jumped up from where I was and ran after Finn, bursting in the backyard to see my dad half crouched next to Miut’s body. He seemed to have checked her over then turned to Finn as he stood still directly in his line of sight.

“Stand down, John.” Finn’s tone was gentle but firm. “All we want to do is take her back to the Council. They have ordered us to bring her in for interrogation.”

“Dad, no!” I sprinted to his side, checked to see what was wrong with Miut. She had dislocated her arm, her face scrunched in pain but she was still okay, despite the arm that is.

“Don’t let them take her.” I pleaded, looking up at my dad.

“I can’t let you take her, Finn.” Dad glanced at me, his eyes softening and he smiled at me bravely before facing Finn again. “Selene, won’t forgive if I abandoned her.”

Finn sighed and looked down, regret carved in his features, “Then you are in violation of our Code of Conduct and under the rules of the Council, we will have to take her by force. Retrieve the trespasser.”

Two males jumped forward and moved towards Dad with almost impossible speed, but knowing they would do so he easily evaded them. They spun around and one attacked, a fury of fists and kicks that seemed to belong to an action movie. Dad seemed to evade them but I could see that he wasn’t fully prepared for the onslaught. But other than that, he seemed to handle them pretty well.

One of the guys, the smallest of the two, threw a jab aimed at Dad’s head, but instead got himself caught in an armlock and was kneed in the stomach before shoved aside. Dad was starting to get his rhythm, an amused smile starting to pull at the corners of his mouth.

“Enough of this, Finn. The Council would want his head along for harbouring an enemy.” A guy with dark brown hair and dark eyes stepped forward to Finn. I felt my stomach clench when he glanced and sneered at me. The primal urge to snarl at him came out of nowhere, the feeling of something else trying to break free from inside myself.

“Stand down, Jesse.” Finn glared down at him, his eyes returning to me and his mouth turned slightly amused even though he tried to hide it. The hint of a smile caused my heartrate to speed up, myself nearly mirroring his until I heard a grunt and someone hitting the ground.

My attention swung to my dad who was laying on his side while the two guys circled. The bigger one of the two pulled Dad up by the shirt and punched him square in the jaw. He proceeded to do this until a thick trickle of blood was dripping down Dad’s chin. I lunged forward towards the fight but someone grabbed me from the waist, pulling me back before I could intervene.

“Let me go!” I snarled and tried to pull myself out of their hold to help Dad. “Stop hurting him!”

“Dean, that’s enough!” Finn barked and the larger of the two guys paused mid-air in his delivery of another punch. I breathed a bit easier until Dean shot me a smirk before grabbing Dad’s head and brought his knee up swiftly. The crack echoed in my head and I saw a gush of blood drop onto the ground with an audible splat.

The smell of fresh blood hitting the earth gave whatever was inside me the to break free. I roared and jumped forward, not caring if I brought whoever was holding me back with me. In that second my body was on fire, the pain excruciating and I crumbled on the ground, unable to move willingly. But the fury of seeing my dad’s blood dripping from Dean’s knuckles gave me the anger to push through the pain.

However, my vision was fading to black. I desperately tried to hold onto consciousness but it slipped out of my grasp.
