I waited for a while then got bored during the movie and went to pull out the black and blue crafted file on Selene’s desk. Slowly I turned through the pages, looking through our album of all the pictures we collected together ever since we became friend.

I paused by one of us by the lake. This was on my 9th birthday there, Eric and Ethan both with their shaggy hair and each missing a tooth. Blain was squinting at the camera, but still managed a goofy 6 year old smile. And then there was Selene and myself, laughing at Mr Wolff who was making silly faces at us from behind the camera. Selene’s light brown hair reached her waist and my ebony black hair was cut in a bob. Her light skin contrasted with my caramel tone. We were so different it was almost comical.

My stomach gave another squeeze and I slid off the bed, wondering where Selene was with our snacks. Skilfully I tiptoed outside the room and down the stairway, my hearing and smell picking up people who aren’t invited.

“Look Selene, we’re trying to help you. You don’t know what that girl is!” an angry male voice drifted upstairs and I instantly ducked behind the railing, watching Selene glare at the blond guy while he glared back at her. The rest of his group were standing outside the front door, looking as if they were bored with the conversation.

“Dad!” Selene yelled and Mr Wolff came from the kitchen, his expression grim.

“Alpha Hudson.” Mr Wolff addressed the blond and Selene had the exact expression of shock on that I wore.

“Wait, you two know each other?” she looked from the blond to her dad and back again. “How?”

“I knew his father, but we haven’t spoken since we moved here.” Mr Wolff shot the blond a glare.

“You never told her, did you?” the blond moved forward, a step into the house. The others behind him stood ready, their expressions a mixture of disdain and impatience.

“Told me what?” Selene was confused, her impatience flaring but no one seemed to notice her question. “Dad, what is Finn talking about?” she turned to Mr Wolff, her eyes seeming to radiate an unnatural fierceness.

“I want my family out of this, Finn. You know as well as I do that we all suffer once I go back.” Mr Wolff shot him a pained expression and Finn flinched, a flicker of resentment fleeting across his expressions.

“You said that but then you allowed that thing in your house?” Finn’s expression hardened and disgust was plainly written on his face. “You allowed that girl to interact with her? Despite knowing what she is? You could’ve put Selene in danger!” I heard shuffling and saw Blain and the twins stand a good distance from their dad, but not out of reach so that they can’t help.

“Dad, is everything okay?” Blain frowned at Finn and the twins crossed their arms simultaneously.

“Its fine boys.” He reassured them and turned back to Finn, “She isn’t a danger to my family… She-” Mr Wolff stopped before he could finish, his eyes widening and a scowl replaced the pain. “Your wolf imprinted, hasn’t he?”

Finn looked uncomfortable for a moment, not meeting Mr Wolff’s gaze.

“Can someone please just clarify what is going on?” Selene looked bloodthirsty but it changed when she pinched her eyes shut and a small groan fled her before her body went limp. Finn moved incredibly fast, catching her and holding her closer with such tenderness that it almost seemed like he was a different person.

“Selene!” I gasped and stood up, alerting everyone to where I was.

“You allowed her to be here at this time?” Finn snarled, murder screaming from his eyes.

“She is no threat to my family and I won’t tolerate your behaviour any longer, boy. Remember, I still out rank you.” Mr Wolff growled down at Finn, his face transforming into something ruthless. The energy was flooding from the three of them, choking me.

I staggered back up stairs and into Selene’s room before shutting the door behind me. The itching had returned and I felt like my skin was set alight, restricting myself nearly immobile. Loud stomping up the stairs caused me to move though, but the only way out was through the window. They were coming for me, something inside me stirred and i didn’t question it.

“Stop!” the door flung open and a guy with short cropped brown hair lunged for me. I flung myself out the open window, waiting for the ground impact.
