I growled out my frustrations and threw my head back, howling at the early Friday, morning moon. I felt the urge, the pull to be by Selene so strongly that Kyle had to tackle me numerous times to stop my wolf from pulling us to where she was. It’s been two days since I last seen her.

I felt the wave of pain come over me as my body went back to my human form. The pain was unbearable for a few seconds, paralysing me before I felt the instant cooling that washed over me. Once the pain was gone, I stood up slowly and inspected the area. Making sure there was no other human around, I snuck to one of the spots where we kept clothes for shifter patrols and pulled out clean pair of boxers and a cargo pants. I dressed quickly, looking up at the dark sky. The moon was high and I ran, not caring where I was going.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to try and find Selene again.” Kyle moved next to me and I slowed down my pace, rolling my eyes at him. He smirked and dashed forward, his grey 3 quarter pants disappearing in the forestry.

“Shut up, Kyle.” I pushed harder, racing him after him and then overtaking him. I growled at him and ran past him, smirking when I knew that I was winning.

“Nice going Alpha, but know that I was only letting you win.” Kyle laughed breathlessly as we slowed down and came to the lake by the nature reserve.

The wind blew strong tonight but we barely felt it, grinning boyishly when we looked at each other. I threw my head back and howled, Kyle joining me and before long another few distant howls responded. We laughed and sat on the grass, throwing small stones into the pond. It was tranquil and slowly I began to relax.

“Alpha, I know it isn’t my place, but you got to talk to Selene.” Kyle said softly and I growled at him, irritated to have my peace snatched away in a matter of seconds. My wolf was alert at the mention of her name. I admit that I noticed how my heart sped a bit at her name and it wasn’t just my wolf.

“She doesn’t want to listen, Kyle.” I growled and ran both my hands through my hair, covering my face in frustration.

“That, my friend, is because you did act like an ass.” He smirked and I swatted his head playfully.

“What type of best friend are you?” I chuckled, rolling my eyes.

“The truthful one.” Kyle grinned and laid back, looking at the stars.

“How do I apologise?”

“Flowers, chocolates, jewellery? What do girls want man?” Kyle rolled his eyes and I frowned.

“Selene isn’t just a girl. She’s my mate. And I don’t think she’s one for jewellery and flowers.”

“Then take her out, dummy.”

“Where?” I looked at Kyle but he shrugged.

“Dude, I’m not her mate. Think of something.”

“I don’t think she even trusts me to even go out with me. And I don’t think John would let her either.”

“Then the answer is simple, gain her trust.”

“But how? I already look bad in front of her.” I sighed heavily.

“She’s probably half scared about being a shifter and everything is so new to her. So why not introduce her to Shifter 101?” Kyle suggested.

“That could work,” I scratched my head, unsure but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that it was the best approach.

“What would you do without me?” Kyle smirked.
