The fence shook and we all climbed up and over. I landed with a hard thud. As much as I would like to stop and wait for the others, I knew I couldn't. "Guys Run!" I took off to the ditch. I heard the others footsteps behind me, not that close though. They were still a distance away. There were shots fired and some hit the ground close to me. Closer than I'd like. I spot the ditch and slid down it and waited at the bottom. Someone tripped and rolled down the edge and hit the bottom, hard. I looked to see Wade. "You okay?"

"Yeah, that didn't hurt. At all," he sneered. I put my hands up and laughed. I look up to the sound of feet stomping the ground and saw Mark.

"Let's go," he said quickly and walked passed Wade to only be stopped by him.

"Where's Felix?" He asked with fear in his words.

"I'm sorry Wade, Jack. Let's go," he got out of Wade's grip and walked into the dark forest. Wade's face, from what I could see, was full of anger and sadness. I stood next to him and gave him a hug.

"I'm so sorry Wade," I whispered. I knew how much Felix ment to him. He didn't say anything, just looked down and nodded. He lifted his head and we started to walk into the forest.

The father into the woods, the less we heard of voices and shots. Wade was eirly quiet. Not the kind where it feels like he's upset or sad, but it was something else. I knew what it was, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Mark walked ahead and Wade behind. We walked through woods in complete silence, until the barking. Wade and I look back to see a dim glow in the distance.

"Great," Wade stated. He look to me and we both nodded, knowing what we were thinking, "Mark, we gotta go." We walked up to him and turned him to what we were talking about.

"Uh yea," his whispered, then dogs reach the hill. The animals must've seen us, because they were barking louder and pulled so hard on the leash the handlers almost hit the dirt. The handlers undid the leash-clip and the dogs barked low and loud as they rushed towards us. "Fuck, run!" We stumble  when turning around and sprinted away.

"They're getting closer! We can't out run them!" Wade announced, "we gotta hide!"

"Where?" Mark snapped, we all stopped and looked around.

"I know," I listened to see where the dogs were at, "all go in different directions and ways, backtrack and go up a tree. The mutt's will pick up the scent and get lost. We get down when they leave." They both nodded and we all went opposite ways. I ran around a couple trees then went in between them, then went backwards and finally climbed to the top of a tree. Once at the top, I looked around and saw this tree along with the ones next to it were connecting. I got up and carefully and quietly walked across the connected branches. I went down three trees and stopped at a random fourth. I lay against the center of the tree, and make myself as small as possible. On action, I would look down to see if anyone was there.

"Get down!" Someone called, I didn't know if they were talking to me, but I stayed put. I heard the cocking of a shot-gun, and froze. My mind was racing, is this really worth getting shot?  I took a breath and stayed still. "Have it your way!" He called, there was a shot and I closed my eyes. I opened back up, and saw I didn't have a hole in me. I looked around to see where the guy was, then I heard a loud thud. My eyes widened, franticly looking to see who it or what it was. Maybe an animal? Mistaken for one of us? God I fuckin hope. My thoughts were ripped right out when I saw who it was.

"Wade," I choked a whisper. Tears pricked my eyes, threatening to spill. I clenched my fists and jaw, forcing the rage to stay inside. At least until they left. After what seemed like hours, they finally left. I cautiously climbed down and made sure they were for sure gone. I saw Wade and walked over to him, kneeling next to him. "I'm so sorry Wade," I choked a sob, "this shouldn't have happened to you," there was a light thud next to me and I glanced over to see Mark.

"We gotta go," he set his hand my shoulder. I stood up and walked up to a tree. "Jack?" I put my hand into a fist and punched it as hard as I could. My knuckles cut open and the bark broke. I took a breath and turned around.

"Ready?" I asked nonchalantly.

"Uh, yea. I know the way out," I tilted my head confused, "when I was younger I use to live around here and always played out here with my brother and friends." I told him okay and followed him out.
