Callie's POV
Nevaeh jumped up the wood first, and Malcolm ran to get a head start, Nevaeh grabbed his hand and pulled him up. I reached up for the wood, but I was too short. I stood on my tiptoes, jumped, and still couldn't reach it. Of course.
"Here." Noah said. I couldn't see well, but I could tell he was trying to help me. "You can step in my hands and you could reach." I walked over to where I could see a dark figure, and he tapped my ankle, showing where his hands were. I put one foot in his hands, and pushed off the ground. I, of course, didn't realize that I needed to grab the board, so, right before I kicked Noah in face, Nevaeh and Malcolm both grabbed one of my wrists.
"Thanks." I told them. We pulled Noah up, and started climbing the wood. Man, children's gymnastics really helped me! I was perfect at this! Just kidding. I slipped and almost fell multiple times before Nevaeh basically had to hold my hand to make sure I didn't fall. We had to be at least 300 feet in the air, and I felt as though Zeus was going to strike us down, even though he couldn't.
"Finally!" I heard Noah exclaim from ahead of us. I looked up to where I'd saw his feet disappear. Malcolm went next, and Nevaeh watched me go up. The surroundings were beautiful. There were rocks lining the magnificent mountain. I know. I sound amazing with that assonance. Nevaeh soon popped up behind us, and was already breathing hardly. She turned in circles, as if looking for something.
"Don't listen to the rocks." She told us. She sounds crazy, I know, but I knew what she meant. The rocks were talking. Talking. It was Kat's voice.
"Callie." They called. "I'm right here. You can save me. It's that easy. Just walk right here." Nevaeh's back was turned, so I made my decision. I sprinted towards one, a large, granite boulder. Noah and Malcolm did the same, only in different directions. I focused back on the rock. It was beautiful, washed out and white, but colorful at the same time. I raised my hand.
"Callie no!" Nevaeh yelled behind me, but it was too late. I'd run my hand over the surface. The rocks started making a rumbling sound, every single one of them. Well this isn't a good situation. I thought.
"Run." Nevaeh said. "Run!" And I noticed why. The rocks were silent, except for the noise. And there it was. The avalanche. From the top tumbled boulders the size of cars. I looked up, breathing heavily, and started to run. I stumbled at first, but went as fast as I could, jut as fast as Nevaeh. I looked back to see how close the bone crushing rocks were, to see Malcolm was on the ground, not moving.
"You idiot!" I yelled as I ran back for him, as did Noah. I grabbed under his arm and slung it around my shoulder, not bothering to try and help him gain conciseness, Noah doing the same. These people never seem to know how to stay on their feet. We started sprinting as fast as we could with his dead weight on us.
"It's what they do." Noah panted over the low rumbles. "They make us go back, so they can catch us." The closest rock laughed, and transformed into a beautiful woman. She had dirt brown hair, and big, grey eyes. Not like the bright grey of Malcolm's. They were a dull grey, like the color of the rock she had came out of.
"You're exactly right child." She cackled, and transformed back into the rock. It would have crushed us, yet Noah pulled us away.
"Holy Hades." I panted, trying to pick Malcolm up. "This is bad."
"Ourea. They're going to kill us unless we get in a closed area." Noah said, picking him up and started to run with me.
"Darling we're going to kill you anyway." One said. There were no more rocks, just women. They were just as beautiful as the rocks were, in Ancient fashion, and they were probably planing the most fun way to kill us.
"Ladies." One boomed over the others small chatter. "Begin." I had no idea what it meant, but it didn't sound good. They all stormed together, and transformed into the rocks, closer than ever before, and also closer together. I had no idea where Nevaeh was, but hopefully she was safe. We started running again, and I realized who these people were. They were descendants of Gaea, as Annabeth taught me on the Argo. My life seemed calm then.
"She just can't keep herself from killing people, can she?" I asked myself aloud.
"Who?" Noah panted over the rumbles.
"Gaea." I said. "She needs to get her crap together." My feet pounded the ground. I was scared, that was for sure, yet I was also angry, and tired. I didn't know how long I could keep going.
"Guys!" I heard Nevaeh scream. "Over here!" She was on the edge of a cliff, swinging her hand around for us to see her.
"Guys?" I heard Malcolm mumble.
"Malcolm, grab my hand and run as fast as you can with me." I said. I fixed my hand around his, and started to run faster, being that his weight wasn't on me. Noah grabbed his other hand, and pulled us into the cave. We crouched behind a rock.
"Is he ok?" I asked Noah.
"He should be alright for now. Probably has a concussion. You can fight, right Malcolm?" Noah asked quietly.
"I think." He answered. "I'm a little dizzy, but it doesn't hurt."
"Thank the gods." I panted. "Those women were going to kill us if Nevaeh didn't find this cave."
"Oh, we're gonna be dead." She whispered. "But they won't be guilty."
"What do you mean?" I asked, trying to be quiet like everyone else. I was so determined to save Kat, dying didn't matter anymore. If they could get out alive, with Kat and Hestia, it was good enough for me. Being quiet was the least of my worries.
"They got us where they wanted us. The battle is beginning." Nevaeh answered, and pointed up. She didn't have to explain anymore. I saw the demigods, the monsters, and, what excited me the most, the cage. The cage where they kept Hestia and Kat. I didn't bother to look at them when I talked.
"Well this will be a hell of a fight."A/N
Hey people! Ok, so there was a reason it took me so long to write this. I wrote the last chapter for this book yesterday, and I've also been rewriting the first chapter of the first book in this series, and the first chapter for the fourth one. Also plotting out different things for this series, and writing others. I love these books though (even though this isn't the best chapter) and I love you guys! Vote and comment!xoxo
