Breakfast is a little tense, well for me and Remmy it is. For Ajax its a different story he seems content to sit here without speaking to each other. The problem is I don't know what to say, was it obvious what happened last night? YES. Can I possibly pretend that it didn't? Nope.
I turn to Remmy, "Why don't just you and I go into town today or mayb-"
Ajax shakes his head. "Not going to happen."
I roll my eyes. "As I was saying, to Remmy, not Ajax." I say, irritated. "Why don't I take you into town and show you were I grew up." I suggest. Thinking it might be nice to talk to Remmy about Ajax and assure him that I don't want to stop being his friend.
"I'd like that." He replies.
"Count me in" Ajax says, at the same time.
"Sorry, only a two person trip." I shrug, not at all sorry.
"There is no way in hell I'm letting you go anywhere with him, alone."
"Letting me? Really?" I ask, getting angry. "So, you think you can tell me what I can and cant do now?"
"I think so, yes."
"Well you cant." I state, clearly.
"I can." He replies.
"No." I counter.
"Yes."
"No!" I shout, getting pissed off at his attitude.
"Yes!"
"Dammit Ajax, I cant do whatever the hell I want!" I shout, wanting to get through to him.
"No, you cant." It's not what he said, but the way he said it. As if what he says is the final say, I wont have that.
"Last night doesn't mean you own me!" I point out, coldly.
"Yes it does."
"Why would you think that?" I ask. Seeing this side of him surprises me. He's told me what to do before, sure. However, to say he owns me, like another head of cattle, shakes me a little.
"Its simple. I had your first time and I'll have your last. We made a commitment to each other and I don't trust him to be alone with you, not for a second." He replies, adamantly.
"But don't say you own me." I say, just to be clear. "My God, who says that kind of stuff? Make your point and keep that stupidly to yourself next time."
When he gives me a look that tells me he really does think he owns me, I want to slap him. "After what he said yesterday hell would freeze over before I'd let you be alone with him. Its that simple, Harp."
"I understand that you don't like him, I get it, but you can trust me and I want to be alone so we can talk. Without you hovering around." I explain.
"No."
I stand up, and tug on his arm until he does the same. "Give us a minute, Remmy."
He gives an smirk and a wave as we leave. "Fucking prick." Ajax mutters as I drag him down the hall to the office. I shut the doors after we go in and turn to him, feeling frustrated.
"You need to take a minute and really think about what you're saying to me. Its so disrespectful, Ajax. Its not like you. I didn't expect you to like the fact that I was going to show him around and talk to him about what was said yesterday. But I thought that you'd understand that it needs to be done."
"It does, so lets talk to him together."
I throw up my hands in frustration. "So you can threaten to kill him again? Great idea! Why didn't I think of that?"
Just looking at his stance and attitude I can tell he's getting just as irritated and mad about the situation as I am. A pissed off Ajax can be a very bad thing, especially with the cause of the tension between us sitting at the table in the other room.
I walk towards him, batting my eyes. "Please?"
"Not going to work, Harp." He answers, stone cold.
I rub my hand along his hard chest. Standing on my tippy toes I kiss his neck, "Please." I say, again.
"No." He replies, as he arms go around my waist.
"Sit." I order, lightly pushing his chest.
He complies, and I straddle his lap. Running my hand through his hair I pull him towards me, kissing him lightly. "Please."
"Harp." He says, in warning.
"I'll make it worth your wild." I whisper suggestively in his ear. I make my way down his neck kissing and sucking on the sensitive skin. When he pulls my hips against him I gasp, still sensitive from last night.
"Now." He demands, as he starts pulling at my clothes.
"I cant, I'm sore." I say, stopping his hands. I smirk when I see his disappointment, it changes as I unzip his jeans and slowly get off his lap, dropping to my knees in front of him.
When we open the door to the office we hear laughter, I look at him in shock. "Your parents are home."
His response is priceless, like a little boy who just dropped her ice-cream cone. I laugh as he walks with his head hung is disappointment. "Okay, Charlie Brown. Knock it off and be happy to see your parents." I whisper before going into the kitchen.
"There you are!" Mrs. West shouts, coming to hug Ajax.
"Ma, did you have a good trip?"
"It was great, all your mother did was complain about being away. She was certain you couldn't survive without her." Mr. West says, answering for her.
"I talked to you both almost every night." Ajax replies, greeting his father with a hug.
"It wasn't enough." Mrs. West complains.
"Clearly." Ajax, teases.
She gives him a look of pure love and I cant help but smile. She hugs me and turns to Remmy. "We met your friend from Flagstaff. He's so funny."
I nod. "Yep, he's great."
"I don't like him." Ajax, comments and I elbow him.
Mr and Mrs. West laugh. "Wonder why?" Mr. West asks, smiling widely and looking at me.
"Oh, my baby. So much like your father, jealous and protective." She turns to me. "They never get over it, just so you know." She says, lovingly.
I laugh, "You're too tolerant."
"Sweetheart, you have to choose your battles. Don't waste your time on things you cannot change." She advises, which has me thinking about my argument with Ajax. I did get him to change his mind though, I smirk triumphantly.
She sees my smirk and winks at me, I blush. I know she cant read my mind, but it feels like she can.
"Remmy was just telling us how you plan to show him around town. You don't mind if I tag along do you? I missed everyone terribly." She says, sadly and holding her hand over her heart.
"Of course not." I reply, only slightly disappointed I wont be able to talk to Remmy alone.
Ajax starts chuckling and I glare at him, which only makes him laugh harder. "Well, that works out perfectly for me. If you'll excuse me I'll be outside." He kisses my temple and proceeds to walk to the door still laughing.
Mrs. West claps happily ready to get started into town.
After stoping at every shop in town and talking to every person that we see Remmy and I are completely exhausted and leaning on each other as we walk into Amelia's dinner. We sit down to order but Mrs. West gets up to greet Mrs. Parker as she comes in. "I'm so sorry." I say, to Remmy with a smile. "She wonderful though, isn't she?"
"She is." He agrees. "I can see why you love it here."
I nod." I do."
"And the work?"
I shrug, "Its not as challenging as I'm used to, but I didn't expect it to be. Actually, its pretty boring." I reply, thinking over the past couple weeks.
"You love to work. I'm surprised you'd stay if you didn't find it stimulating."
"Yeah, well. If things were different, I'd probably be back in Flagstaff hunting down a job, but now with Ajax." I say, leaving the sentence unfinished.
"He could always go back with you." He comments, completely serous.
I laugh at the thought. "No way."
"If he loved you enough he would." He states, giving me a serious look. "Tech. International needs someone to head up the accounting division, I want to put your name in."
"You came here to offer me a job?"
He rubs his face. "To be honest I did. I want you back. I miss you like crazy. I know you love it here, I thought I'd come and you'd see me and miss me as much as I did you, but that didn't happen."
"Remmy." I say, hurting for him.
"Its fine. The job is yours if you want it, its a challenge its going to be hard work."
"I cant."
"Come on, Harper. Did you really just spend four years in college to work at your boyfriends ranch?" He asks, in disbelief.
The conversation ends as Mrs. West comes back to the table. "Remmy, you just have to try the chicken fried steak, its amazing." Mrs. West raves. A little out of sorts from my talk with Remmy I keep quiet through lunch, until Mrs. West turns to me. "I hope you don't think I came to actually see everyone." She states, amused.
Stunned I shake my head. "What do you mean?"
"Well, have you and Ajax been intimate?" She questions, smiling.
I hear Remmy cough covering a laugh. Speechless I open and close my mouth, no sound coming out. "Thats fine you don't have to tell me, I already know." She winks.
"Um, Okay?" I respond, trying to snap out of my state of shock.
"However, I am worried."
"Okay?"
"Harper Morgan! Stop saying, okay." She demands.
"Oka-Well, what is it you're worried about?"
"Montana wasn't good enough for you for four years, almost five. Is Ajax enough to keep you here?"
"I think so." I answer.
"You better know so soon." She responds, gravely.
