You saw him staring at you? He is such a jerk, why would you like him?” asked EJ, while trying on this vest she liked. She is my best friend. She knows everything...well not everything. I met EJ Kayde 4 years ago in color guard tryouts when the populars were telling me I had no chance on making the team and I shouldn’t even be trying out.She is our band instructor’s daughter. I love her so much we are like family. The weird but cool thing is that we look alike that we could actually be sisters.
“Yeah I heard one of his football friends yell ‘yo Evan stop starring your out of her league’” I thought he was going to say something to me. It’s like I’m a freak or something. When will I stop living this nightmare? It’s like a never-ending hellhole that I can’t get out of.
“I still cant believe you thought he was friendly, he is a jerk in front of his friends, you can only imagine what he would be like away from his friends” said EJ.
“ Yeah I don’t either” I lied “lets go home my blood sugar is dropping and I didn’t bring my insulin with me” I said. We had spent all afternoon shopping and I was ready to go home. I couldn’t be out anymore. I had a dance class I had to teach. She couldn’t know I taught a dance class, its bad enough I am in color guard and I am a nerd. Why make it worse?
“Ok good idea I wouldn’t want my best friend passing out on me now would we?” she said.
The car ride home was silent. It was kinda awkward. It was like she was hiding something from me. She didn’t seem like herself. It could just be me but who knows. “ EJ is everything ok? You seem… lost”
“yeah I’m fine, just a little tired that’s all” she told me. When she said that I knew something was up. It was now just a matter of figuring out what it was. No matter what it took. I couldn’t risk loosing my best friend.
Later that night we went to her house. She snuck out like she usually does and I stayed home to watch her little siblings. You know what’s weird? We look more like each other than her little siblings do. 2 hours later her parents got home. “Hi Mr. and Mrs. Kayde how was your night?”
“It was great how were Avery and jack?” Mrs. Kayde asked
“little angels like always”
“and EJ?” asked Mr. Kayde. Now this is where I always had to find an excuse. I have used almost everyone in the book… TWICE!!!
“Um… she is upstairs, she wasn’t feeling well and I said I would watch the kids”
“ok thank you, we will get the money to you soon” said Mrs. Kayde.
