Being stuck in the old house was becoming too much for her. The bitter cold air outside had forced her into it however. But, due to Madame Lea's absence in the lonely house, Acrista decided to venture out into the garden.

She was a tall, slender girl who wore a magnificent crown of dark chocolate curls which fell to her waist. Her skin was soft and very pale. She had hardly eaten in the past few weeks, and her body showed it. If she had been allowing herself to show her face in public, people would have surely been concerned for the young woman. Her ribs began to show through her light dresses, her cheeks were hollow, and her eyes lifeless.

She set out to the the garden in hopes that maybe the familiarity would ease her aching heart. It was always so beautiful in the spring. Full of life and color.

She set off for the backdoor. However as soon as the sliding door to the kitchen had moved an inch, it was flung open, revealing a slightly surprised looking man. The emotion fled from him almost as quickly as it had sprung however, and a toothy smile replaced it.

"Acrista!" He said quickly, "I didn't expect you back here, you could have just rang the bell ma'm."

"Yes, I know. I wished only to go to the garden for a little while." She said, hoping he would not object to such an idea. She had not been out of this house, for at least a month. Not even into the garden.

"Oh, of course Mistress! I will get your cover." And with that he hurried across the kitchen to the small detached room, which would lead to the back steps. Madame Lea would often wash the dirty garments of the house here. But only in the summer, and warmer months. The cold water with the biting air would surely freeze her hands.

Madame Lea had left about a three weeks ago to go and visit a sick member of her family. She had, in turn missed the news which now plagued Acrista's heart and mind. Lea, the maid, had also not written or had any contact with the residents of the old home. Madame Lea's absence cause Acrista's lonely heart to become only more so. Lea was like a mother to her. She always had been. Acrista longed for the woman her heart called mother.

A large piece of cloth being wrapped around her startled Acrista out of her thoughts. She stood while the man tied the strings at the front for her. Once he had finished the firm knot he took her by the shoulders and looked deep into her sad lifeless eyes. With a reassuring squeeze of his hands, he opened the door to the back stairs for her.

He wanted nothing more in the world than to rid her of all her sorrows. This my dear reader, will prove to be a far more difficult task that any of us could ever imagine...
