"I look beautiful."
No, you look like a sausage.
"I look pretty."
Yeah, pretty uncomfortable.
"I am- What am I doing? This isn't working." I glare at my reflection in the mirror.
My hair was something close to a rats nest. The brown pieces were twisted together in snarls even though I'd just brushed it twenty minutes ago. I had bags under my eyes, not to mention the chubby cheeks that made me look like a chipmunk. I scrunch my nose and notice the many wrinkles that form on my face. I watched as my brown eyes moved to my stomach, which hung over my jeans just enough to make it look like I had a permanent tube around my waist.
Groaning in annoyance, I slipped the jeans off and found a bigger pair. It was more comfortable... but they were baggy.
I hated my reflection.
I was walking folds of skin.
"Marley! Get your butt up here! You'll be late for school!" My mother's voice cuts through my thoughts and I take my reflection in once more before starting towards the stairs. "Marley!"
"I'm coming, Mom!" I shout back. She mumbles something in the kitchen and I grab my backpack.
"Hey, sweetie. Have a good day at school." My mother's blue eyes soften when she looks at me. I nodded.
"Don't get lost on the way to work." I offer as some form of a response and I hear my mom chuckle as I hug her. My feet drag as I start towards the end of my driveway.
"Today is going to be a good day. Today is going to be a good day."
I roll my eyes at my stupidity.
"Today is not going to be a good day. Today is Monday."
I kick the dirt angrily, watching little clouds of dust swirl up. My ears heard the screeching of the bus and I looked up to see the evil cheesewagon in front of me. Sighing, I clambered on, ignoring all the little kids bickering about stickers in the front and moving towards the back to sit in my usual seat between the High school and Junior High.
There was someone sitting in my seat.
Oh, the awkwardness of the situation has arrived.
I either sit with the stranger, or take another persons seat.
I decide to sit behind the boy, knowing the girl who sat behind me would sit with her boyfriend in the back once she saw me here. At least, I hoped she would.
Awkwardness handled.
My hands untangled my headphones and I go to stick them in my ears when the Awkward-Seat-Stealer turns around.
"Hey umm... I'm new here." He smiles.
He had a very nice smile.
"I figured."
Wow, way to be welcoming, Marley.
"My name is William." He grins and offers his hand to shake. I, being the awkward person I am, thought it was a high-five. So he kind of stared at me strangely when I didn't shake his hand.
"It's... uhhh... nice to meet you, William." I offer a side smile, hoping he'd end my misery by stopping the conversation.
He didn't.
"What's your name?" He asks. I facepalm. Good grief I was a mess.
"I'm Marley." I laugh at my own stupidity and William sends me a grin. He really was too attractive to be talking to me.
