Chapter 2;

The next day, was the day my high school and I were going to camp in Palm-springs campsite. I was totally ready for today because 4 weeks ago I'd packed in my camp rucksack: a sleeping bag and feathery pillow, a torch, climbing rope, sports kits and running sneakers, sunglasses, a protective hat, a water bottle, sun cream, a hair brush, wellingtons, a sheep skin sweater, climbing equipment, books, reading glasses (and if you're wondering... yes I wear glasses guys) hiking boots, a battery powered alarm clock and radio, lotion, a towel, ankle socks, a disposable camera, a swim suit and goggles, 9 pairs of camping clothes, a green rainproof anorak coat, toiletries, a flask, binoculars, a compass, underwear and p-jay's.

Unfortunately we have a flimsy camp rule book that states that NO MOBILE PHONES, WALLETS OR PURSES ARE ALLOWED! That's the one rule that I'll always despise, how can I go 10 days without my two favourite babies?

So after I had a shower, put on my underwear and this time all I did with my face was apply facial cream although for my hair I just left it short as always, which made it look all dull, because students are not allowed makeup and jewellery and if wearing extensions we need to style it plainly etc. that's what the "How to be an experienced camper" rule book states on page #59 that we have to be 100% natural because we're gonna be outdoors for 10 days. Ugh I hate that book so much!

3 minuets had passed by and at this time I was getting dressed. Our high school has a strict "by the book" camping outfit so we all wear: a dark green combat pattern long sleeve top, a beige and white combat pattern waistcoat with chest pockets and the college logo, a dark green sash (for collecting badges), a beige neckerchief tie, thigh-length dark green combat shorts (boys get longer shorts up to their knees), a pair of brown Timberlands with our college logo on 'em and white ankle socks.

When I'd finished it was around 9:30am and I just managed to have my breakfast. My mum and sister were waiting for me at the front door with "oh please don't go" looks on their faces but they knew it was part of the school curriculum so I had no choice. They could also write letters but they'd take forever to get there. And when I left. The high school bus was out my door. It made me feel like I was still in kindergarten. But for some strange reason I had a proud smile across my face. I got on and quickly spotted Ivory and there was an empty seat beside her. Then I noticed Joel at the back sitting with his football-crazy friends. I felt my heart beat speed up. As I sat next to Ivory I could feel his eyes staring at the back of my neck and just to assure myself I was right I looked back to see a smiling J looking back at me.

For the rest of the ride there everyone was in awkward silence except from the geeks who where racing paper aeroplanes and playing checkers, I looked out the window and it was really dark outside, it must've been really late, I then looked at my wrist watch and it was 8:00pm. The awkward silence was broken when a tall looking man with a cadet suit walked onto the bus, all eyes were on him. His voice wasn't as deep as I thought it would be when he said

"Welcome Hermsheire Academy, we've been waiting for your arrival" he talked in a very high pitched tone.

We then all said in unison "Goodevening Mr?... " our voices trailed off not knowing his name.

He then replied "Mr. McCally"

We all sat by the glazing fire (obviously me and Iv were together) and roasted some toasty marshmallows .

We all then started to chat until he said we should get off the travel bus and follow him to where he'll assign us to our tents. As we got there he said

"Because of lack of organisation, some boys will be sharing tents with girls and also be their partner for some activities if you wish to, we are truly sorry for this terrible arrangement".

We all started to moan and whinge like a bunch of kids. Me and Ivory stared at each other in shock. We crossed our fingers and hoped that we'd both be together.

He read out names.

"Haley with Tanya,"

"Jonathan with Alex,"

...

"Ivory with ‒ " ... At this moment we both were confident that we'd be paired until he finished the sentence off with.

"Ivory with DJ" we stared at each-other in terror, DJ was Joel's best friend and he had an endless crush on Ivory and she had a big crush on him too. We both knew from then on this camp was going to be a complete and utter disaster! What else could go wrong? That was a question I shouldn't have asked because the last pair he read out was...

"Joel with Zenah"

Kaitlyn looked at me in disbelief and gave me a dirty look and I didn't know what all that drama was for... After all they had broken up.

Just then Joel came beside me and said

"Isn't it a coincidence that me and you are pairs when we've only just met?"

As I was GOBSMACKED. I just shook my head, it kinda looked like my head was bobbing up and down.

We all were escorted to our tents and started to unpack our stuff. The tents were unusually large. Once again silence was the only thing that could be heard in our tent. I was scared to share a room with a stranger... Well he wasn't really a stranger but it was still abit scary. I felt as if I was being watched. So when I looked up I saw that Joel was staring straight back at me. Afterwards, I set up my sleeping bag to get ready for bed. Tonight was ever so freezing and pitch black so we had to wait for an hour until we could have showers and prepare ourselves for bed.

So to speed up time I was looking through old photos that I took last time I came camping and there were so many memories. Later on as I'd finished T.B.T'ing, I decided to go outside the tent (with only my torch and fuzzy bunny slippers) to catch some fresh air before the last 15minutes were over. Before I left I took my torch light. I could feel the howling of the wind racing past my face and the soft crunch of crumbling grass under my fuzzy feet. Suddenly, something moved in the distance and I tripped over a branch and dropped my torch. The boom-booming of My heart beat was increasing. I was terrified ... And couldn't move. I tried to scream but all that came out was a hissing wheeze.
