Mystery Behind Love

Chapter 1

     Ever since that day with the Giant I couldn't stop thinking of Malfoy.  It's been a week now and the school had decided to throw a dance.  So I guess I had to go.  Ginny was way over excited and I was wishing I could study more.  I looked at Ginny as she continued talking about plans.  I stood from my bed and began to head toward the great hall for breakfast with Ginny tailing me.

      I was getting bored of this dance coming up.  It brought up to many memories of the past and wasn't something I would usually go to.  I walked into the room and sat down when the owls came in.  A package dropped in front of me and I looked confused.  I never got packages.  I opened it carefully and inside was a new uniform and a letter.  "Hermione Granger, We would like you to be our head student with one other student this year.  We are sorry for the late notice as we have been busy with other things.  Please pack your things and transfer them to your new dorm later this evening.  Sincerely, Professor McGonagall."  I stared at the letter confused.  Who was the other head student?  I looked at my three friends and showed them the letter.  

     Ron was against me leaving, like usual.  Ginny and Harry though were fine with it.  I was getting annoyed with Ron's constant bickering so I used the muffliato charm so he wouldn't hear me.  I began mumbling stuff about how stupid he was being.  I finally left my dorm and walked through the halls to my new dorm.  I saw a note telling us what the password was and walked through the portrait into my new room.  It was very pretty to say the least.  Everything was neutral in color so nothing over the top.  I walked into my room and saw it was decorated like my house.  I sighed and began unpacking when I heard the portrait open.  

      "Take the paper off please so none of the students see."  I began walking down the stairs talking when I heard the voice I didn't want to hear.  "Nice seeing you again Granger."  I looked Malfoy in the eyes and walked back up into my room.  Not dealing with him today.  I have to help plan the dance for tomorrow night.  

     I was so annoyed.  Malfoy wouldn't leave me alone and it was frustrating.  As we walked to the great hall for dinner I could hear Malfoy complaining about Ron and I sniggered.  "What?"  I just shook my head and continued walking.  Guess I wasn't the only one that was annoyed by Ron.  I walked to my table and sat down when Malfoy came up to me.  "The password is Ron is annoying.  Don't tell him though."  He whispered that to me then left.  I tried to hide my laugh to no avail.  It was so funny.  "What's funny?"  Ron had a mouth full of food and I grimaced in disgust.  "Nothing."  

      I walked back to the dorm room and said the password.  I walked in and grabbed my book from the coffee table.  I might as well study for my test in Care for Magical Creatures.  I enjoyed that class.  I was turning the page when the portrait opened.  I felt the couch dip and glared at Malfoy.  "Yes?"  He smirked at me and I sighed.  I marked my page in the book and looked at him expectantly.  "Weasel needs to learn manors.  Gosh that was so gross, him talking with his mouth open."  I laughed at this and went back to my book.  "What's so funny?"  I glanced at him.  "I guess I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with Ron."

      The next day went extremely fast and it was finally time for the dance.  I wore an elegant gown and was quite pleased with how I looked.  I saw Ginny though and gasped.  She was gorgeous.  She was wearing this emerald green ball gown with silver stilettos.  "Who are you trying to impress?"  She blushed and then realized, Harry.  They've had this thing for a while now and they were adorable!  I sighed and we walked down the halls to the dance.

     The closer we got the louder the music got.  I was so not ready for this.  "Maybe I should just go back to my dorm and study."  I was about to turn around when two arms looped through both of mine.  On my right was Ginny and my left was Malfoy.  "Glad you could make it Granger, I was beginning to worry you would just stay in your room the entire time and study."  I glared at both of them as we entered the room.  People were everywhere.  Maybe I liked this before but not anymore.  I tried turning around when Malfoy grabbed me.  "I'll watch her Weasel, why don't you find Potter."  She nodded her head and left.  I then glared at Malfoy and began to pout.  "Grow up Granger.  Since I have to watch you, your coming with me to save me from Zabini."  I looked at him shocked.  I tried turning around one more time and almost slipped out when Malfoy turned me around.  "He's this way."  I groaned and fallowed Malfoy.

      When the night began to close in I finally sighed.  This was the last dance and it was over.  I also wasn't apart of the clean up crew, thank goodness.  "Care to dance?"  I looked at who had spoken and saw Malfoy holding his hand out to me.  I might as well, I got nothing better to do.  Oh thats right study!  I nodded my head and he led me to the dance floor.  As we began to dance I heard someone scream.  Everyone stopped and saw as Ron started floating in the air.  "You are in danger!"  Then he fell.

     Everyone was freaking out as I tried to get to my friend.  He may annoy me but I still cared.  "Harry!"  I watched as Harry got trampled by other people.  "Get to Ron!"  I nodded my head and finally made it there.  He was passed out on the floor with blood seeping out of his mouth.  "He needs to get to the Hospital wing!"  I tried to yell to Harry but couldn't find him.  "Then you grab his feet, I'll get his head."  Malfoy was there kneeling by Ron's head.  I nodded my head and together we carried Ron to the Hospital Wing.  When we got there I quickly cried for help.  

      I must of fallen asleep, because when I woke up I was laying on Malfoy's shoulder and Ron was on a bed in front of me.  I groaned and sat up when I saw a nurse walk in.  "Ah your awake, you passed out when you came in.  It was from all the excitement of course."  I nodded my head and looked around.  Malfoy was in a chair next to me, and Ron was in the bed but no one else was in here.  "What time is it?"  The nurse glanced at her watch.  "Noon.  Don't fret about school though.  Mr. Potter offered to get yours and Mr. Malfoy's homework."  I nodded my head and looked at Malfoy.

      When one came around I finally decided to wake Malfoy.  I softly shook him when he rubbed his eyes.  "Who's dying?"  I rolled my eyes and sighed.  "Harry is getting our homework as long as we promise to watch Ron.  So tell me, what happened after I passed out?"  He began to tell me the story and I was so surprised.

     "We entered the room and you called for a nurse.  When they came running in you all of a sudden blacked out.  Luckily Potter caught you and sat you in a chair.  We then finished carrying Weasel to the bed and the nurses told us he had been cursed.  Other than that nothing."  I nodded my head at this and sighed.  A nurse walked up and I stood up.  "Will Ron be ok?"  She smiled at me and nodded her head.  "Of course nothing was to severe so he should be fine in the next week."  I nodded my head and sat back down.
