Finnick's P.O.V
"Katniss is gone. You were so concentrated on your conversation that you mustn't of heard the heart machine."
Tears start spilling from his eyes. He slowly fumbles his way out of his chair and heads for the door. He starts running down the corridor me and Annie exchange concerned looks. What's he going to do?
Peeta P.O.V
I can't handle this right now. I head towards the door and make a runner. I can't believe she's gone. My little Katnip's gone. What will her mother and Prim think. I start running down a relatively quiet road when I hear a soft, robotic purring behind me. Finnick followed me. I start picking up the pace but so does he. I make my way down a narrow footpath and just wait there for a minute. Before I know it, I'm balling my eyes out. I no longer hear the car so they must've stopped. The dry leaves and twigs nearby start snapping and crackling. When the find me, they don't say anything. Both of them sit down either side of me. I expect a lecture on how I should be strong, how I need to take car of Prim and her mother. But., instead, I just get hugs. No lecture, just hugs. They stand up and pull me up with them and help me into the backseat of their car. We start driving home but then I notice something; a bridge. The very same bridge that mr and Katniss used to play on and ride our bikes across.
"Hey guys. Do you think you could stop for 5 minutes?" I ask.
"Sure buddy, what's up?"
"It's just that me and Katniss used to always play on this bridge" I step out of the car. I stare onto the busy road below and compare it to our quiet, scenic one. After a minute, Finnick and Annie come out to.
"You ready to go buddy?" Finnick asks. I turn to look at him and then at Annie and I hug them both.
"Tell them what happened Finnick. Tell her family the whole story.... and tell mine"
He looks at me confused and then realises what's happening. I hug them both.
"Thank you for being such great friends. Tell the others I love them. Please."
And with that, I climb up onto the bridge's steel barrier and turn around so I'm facing Finnick and Annie. Annie turns into his chest and starts crying. Finnick stands there proud and tall. He salutes me so I copy his posture and salute him back.
"Goodbye" And with that I fell backwards off the bridge.
