“What the hell are you doing in Hades’ bed, wearing that?” Helena’s voiced screeched, waking me up. I rustled awake, glancing down. Sure enough I was in some skimpy black lace, and Hades was beside me in bed. My life was so messed up. I just smirked, planning on enjoying Helena’s justice.
“Well, I guess all the rumors are true,” I said. “Hades is the sexiest of the gods. My goodness Helena, why were you wasting time murdering me when you could have been with him?”
“Hello Helena,” Hades said, sitting up and wrapping his arms around me. “Surely, you know that I am a man with needs. Did you think I’d wait for you forever, Helena?”
“You guys are cute,” Helena said, her smirk turning lopsided. “Did you really think I would fall for this? I’ve been a reaper for centuries Hades. I can read souls like I can read needy men. And Macy’s soul is putting off serious virgin vibes.”
“So what,” I said, thinking quickly. “Just because we didn’t go all the way doesn’t mean we didn’t have a good time. What can I say, Hades is an expert at third base?”
“And what is third base, Macy?”
“The one right before home,” I said, my voice cracking. I never did understand the whole baseball metaphor.
“Stop,” Hades said. “You’re fine, you’ve fulfilled your end of the bargain. Gabe’s sentence is lessened. Evan is free.”
“Thank you,” I said, standing to leave. I turned my reaper ring, and my clothes reappeared on my body. It felt good to have clothes again.
“Really Hades, this is your grand plan,” Helena cried. “Win me back by making Gabriel comfortable. It’s bad enough you let him take her place to begin with, giving him what he wanted.”
“He is suffering in the pit,” I said. “Helena, you need to let it go. How could he possibly feel any more pain?”
“A thousand years in the underworld,” Helena said, “is nothing compared to losing your one true love.”
“Well he’s only got a year now, bitch,” I said gleefully. “And if you’re smart, maybe you’ll appreciate the lengths Hades is willing to go for you. Stop obsessing over my boyfriend and focus on yours.”
“Ex-boyfriend,” Helena said. “I heard he dumped you.”
“Goodbye Hades,” I said. “Just FYI, I appreciate the deal. You didn’t have to help me at all, especially not with Zeus’ interference. If you ever need a friend, I’m here.”
“Thanks Macy,” Hades said.
I closed the door, hearing Hades voice bellow out. I don’t know what he said to her, but I knew I was glad I wasn’t Helena. Mistress or not, I didn’t think Hades appreciated her attitude.

The reaper pit was buzzing when I went down to get my assignment. As I walked past, everyone was calling out various phrases and whistling at me.
“Hey Macy, how was Hades?”
“Bite me, Augustine,” I bit back at one of the reapers. He shrugged his shoulders. Jericho approached me, grinning.
“Don’t say a word,” I said. “I don’t need any more crap today.”
“No problem,” Jericho said. “It’s just, you surprise me Macy. First you kicked Helena’s ass, sort of. Then you sleep with Hades. You’re kind of the new bad girl of the underworld, which is impressive.”
“Do you have a crush on me now too, Jericho?”
“No,” Jericho said. “I don’t. Honestly, I used to have a thing for Helena before I realize what a bitch she was.”
