Chapter 6 (Devyn’s POV)

We opened the door to Hayes’s room and saw Charlotte sitting on Hayes’s bed.

“I’m so sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Charlotte Johnson,” she smiled a little too perky, “I dated Hayes before I moved.”

“I’m Devyn Rhodes. I moved here for the summer.”

“Oh how nice,” she stood up next to Hayes. “Hayes was the best. I was so sad when I had to move to NYC for my modeling job. Leaving him was terrible,” I rolled my eyes.

“So Devyn, tell me a bit about yourself. I have been telling you all about myself. Where are my manners?”

“Um, I’m from Rhode Island.”

“What do you like to do? I’m obviously a model, but I also cheer and sing.”

“I dance. We just won Nationals,” she was making me mad with her bragging so I had to say something good about myself.

“Oh, how exciting,” she looked down to her pink iPhone. “Hayes! I almost forgot! My mom and dad said you could come with us to Disney next weekend!

“Charlotte, Devyn is my girlfriend,” her jaw dropped to the ground.

“Of all the girls at Davidson Day, you choose her!” she screams. I felt warm tears boiling up in my eyes.

“Yes I did. And If you can’t accept that, you need to leave,” he moves away from Charlotte and towards me. “Devyn is a better girlfriend then you will ever be.”

“Hayes! How could you say that?” she screamed.

“Charlotte, I think you either should apologize or leave.”

“Whatever. I’m leaving.”

I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I let go, tears streaming down my face.

“Devyn, don’t cry, please. She’s not worth it,” he pulled me into his chest.

“She’s right. I’m just a nobody. You’re practically famous.”

“Dev, you are the most amazing girl in the world. Never forget that.”

I look up in to his eyes.

“I love your eyes. They are so cute,” he says.

I giggle, “I’m the one who should be telling you that you have pretty eyes, Mr. Hayes Grier!”

He smiles and interlocks his hands with mine.

“Let’s go see what kind of hissy fit Charlotte threw.”

We crept downstairs and looked around the corner into the living room. Charlotte was crying and jumping all over her parents.

“We’re going home! Now! Let’s go!” she whined.

We looked at each other and laughed as quietly as we could.

“Mom! Dad! We need to go!”

“Charlotte Vanessa Eliza!” her parents turned to Elizabeth and Chad. “We’re so sorry.”

Hayes and I run upstairs to his room and lock the door.

“My mom is going to be so mad.”

“HAYES!” we hear her yell.

“There it is.”

She comes upstairs and starts to pound on Hayes’s door.

“Hayes, open up!” he sighs and slowly opens the door.

“Hayes, what did you do to Charlotte?” she demands.

“I told her Devyn is my girlfriend. That’s all.”

“Is this true?” she turns to me.

“Yes ma’am.”

She sighed and left his room.

“Do you want to spend the night here?” Hayes blurted out.

“Um, sure. I mean, you’ve been at my apartment so much. Why not,” I text Taylor and tell him I’m sleeping at Hayes’s.
