Edged with softness this familial day
loitering down muddy strewage of trails.Sulk at heirloom binoculars askew,
but with the bare eye pick blackbirds' careen
running within tunnels of leafless thorn -yellow-bill, dun mate theropodding* through
ward-halls of sharps .
Thin damp, veils, prevails.
Any raptor would be harrier low,
owl low now.
Seen only a buzzard sail,
clear days ago, wheeling, scanning stripped trees. The mere's a drab cloth in mist, self-tailored.
Late January offers emptiness
only smallest of nettles could distress................
*Theropod dinosaurs are the dinosaurs birds evolved from (is the main theory). The blackbirds running not flying put me in mind of the little dinosaurs. It's just my humour.
