"America?"
"Yeah who else!?" An annoyed voice answered.
She blinked. Israel had actually not expected him to pick up the phone. Countries all over the world from her neighbors to Russia to African nations had been complaining lately that America had dropped off the face of the earth. His soldiers were leaving many countries; everyone was kind of freaking out. She being one of the few countries who his soldiers were not abandoning. Many countries finding this out asked her to find out what the hell was happening. Israel wasn't really doing this for them though; a bad feeling still set in her stomach and she didn't like being in the dark.
"Alfred," Israel stated simply,"it's me." He was quiet for a moment. He probably hadn't looked at the ID for who was calling.
"Shit...." Israel forced herself not to laugh. She then heard Alfred gulp on the other end of the line.
"Sorry about that," he said at last,"I've just been under a lot of stress lately." He slid a hand through his hair. Dear god, life and the world had not been kind to him as of recent.
"I understand, but Alfred we need to talk..." She heard a scream on the other end of the line. Israel blinked; what just happened?
"I'm sorry! Please don't break up with me! Whatever I did I'll make it up to you! Honest..." America began, but Israel quickly cut him off.
"Take a deep breath America! It's not about that!"
"Promise?" Came the American's quick rely. She smiled a little.
"I promise okay. Take a deep breath. What made you jump to that conclusion?" America laughed a little.
"Well you see..." America began as he felt quite a bit embarrassed,"like every show here has a point where someone, usually a girl, says 'we need to talk' to her significant other and it always ends up with a break up."
"Come on Hero Boy," Israel said a bit annoyed,"I've waited far to long to break up with you especially this quick."
"Well sorry for overreacting um what did you call to talk about then?" America asked as he tried to ignore the heavy stomping feet of the Roman ghost. The ancient empire snickered lightly at the American.
"One sec Honey..." America said quickly and put the cell up against his boomer jacket so she couldn't hear what he was about to say.
"What is it now Rome?" America asked annoyed,"I'm in the middle of something important." Rome just chucked at the blonde's anger.
"It can wait," Rome said still chuckling a bit. America rolled his eyes and brought the phone back to his ear.
"Sorry about that!" America said,"what do we need to talk about?"
"Well I'd rather talk to you in person and it's about you leaving so many of your military bases around the world." America paled slightly on the other end of the line. Shit. Shit. Shit. He had not prepared a lie for that question yet to her.
"Well... you see... um..." America tried and glared over at the Roman who was laughing his head off at him.
"Your trying to come up with a B.S. lie right now aren't you hero boy?" Well shit. America felt his throat go dry.
"Alfred." Israel spoke his name as she rubbed her temples."This is why we should meet in person."
"How about we talk about this at the next world meeting?" America asked trying to redeem himself. "I'll tell you the truth and I'm sorry it's just a lot is going on all at once."
"Alright America," Israel answered,"just try not to do something that could get us all killed." America smiled as his body relaxed.
"Don't worry so much honey," he said sweetly causing her to laugh a little on the other line.
"Bye hero boy."
"Bye." America took a deep breath before glaring over at the Roman.
"What do you want now?" The American snapped. The Roman just kinda grinned at him for a moment.
"Nothing important. Just don't give away all are secrets." The brown haired ghost gave the American a dark look.
"Would you calm down," America said rolling his blue eyes,"you played favorites more than anyone."
"I'm just saying be careful," Rome said with a shrug,"and be prepared the next world meeting will not be pretty."
"I know."
World Meeting a few days later in England
"You can't just leave!"
"Vat the hell America!"
"Your causing a lot of the trouble da?"
"Zis iz ztupid even for you."
"You had one job America!"
"You need to stay involved!"
"It's your responsibility."
"Have you lost it aru!?" It just kept going on and on like this at the meeting. He hadn't even been able to talk to Israel or see her bacause off how so many countries were bombarding him. Finally America what done. This was partly why he had left completely from many of these countries.
"America!" The golden blonde super power rubbed his temples as he left the meeting room. He had expected them to whine and scream, but not on this level. And they called him stupid!?
"What do you think your doing just getting up and leaving so many countries!?" Didn't they want him out? Why were these people so... so bipolar? Make up your freaking minds!
"Alfred!" Why!? He should just make them all go away! That would show them! That would show them all!
A pair of arms hugged his waist. A smaller body was pressed against his back. He blinked, coming back to reality. He had wandered off; it took him a minute to realize he had almost left the building to head back to the hotel. He had really lost his cool there huh?
"Alfie?" Israel's asked as she continued to hug him. Genuine concern made him relax a little; it was always refreshing to know someone cared.
"I'm fine."
"You told me the same thing during the Great Depression."
"Izzy."
"And you obviously were lying back then."
"Please don't."
"What are you hiding hero boy?" Israel asked and she felt his body shake. She would hate him. Oh God, she would hate him. He had made a deal with a ghost country she still considered a living devil. And there was no getting out of it.
"I can't," he whispered,"please just trust me for a little longer." He turned his head to look at her. She could see unshed tears in his shimmering eyes. Israel sighed and nodded; trying to get anything would be pointless right now.
"Then lets go." And he smiled his happy go lucky smile though something dark could be seen underneath.
