"what's going on? why is there a mundane in the institute?" alec asked, seeing the boy rowan had saw earlier, standing next to clary.
"a circle member followed him to get to clary" the older Wayland said with a sigh, his eyes looking at rowan then to alec.
"the circle rune, just like the guys who took my mother" clary said, sadness clouded her eyes.
"what exactly is a circle member and why are they trying to kill us?" the mundane spoke, causing izzy and rowan to smile at him, he was cute, but in a nerd way. alec seemed to noticed her looking at the mundane, with this he rolled his eyes and lightly bumped his shoulder into rowan.
"all we know is a long time ago the circle led a revolt. a lot of shadowhunters got killed, including my father" the older wayland said making rowan look at her older brother, izzy noticed this and looked at her best friend.
"you okay?" izzy then asked.
rowan took a deep breath before nodding, it was hard for her to hear about her father.
"and since the revolt, we've been forbidden to even hear about the circle" alec stated
"but how is that even possible, it's your history" clary asked in disbelief.
"says the girl who didn't even know she was a shadowhunter" jace added.
"yeah, yeah you're right and I'm the only person who knows the truth is missing. so I don't care about your rules or what's forbidden. there's gotta be someone out there who can tell why they've taken my mother" clary said to the older wayland.
"there is, coming?" jace asked as he turned around and went towards the training room. making the girls and alec look at him.
"yeah" clary replied walking after jace with the mundane.
"no, not you" jace said as he put his hand on the mundane's shoulder, stopping him.
"hey, we're a package deal" clary stated
"yeah" the mundane added.
"who'd want that package?" rowan mumbled quietly, to alec making him smirk.
"there are runes all over the training room floor that would kill your mundane boyfriend" jace informed, which made izzy and rowan smirk at each other.
"he's not my-"
"I'm not her-"
clary and the boy started at the same time but stopped.
"we're just friends" the boy said with disappointment
"best friends" clary corrected.
"there's no getting out of the best friend zone, buddy" rowan again mumbled, this time making both lightwood laugh.
"yeah, and I'm tough I can handle runes. so, uh" the boy started as he hit jace with the back of his hand. "bring on the runes" he said as he then shook his hand from the pain. "what exactly are runes?"
