It was Spring Break so the café was busier than normal. Student who would normally be inside studying were staying out late and taking refuge in the café from the spring rain. By the end of the day everything was a mess and they were almost out of pastries. However, the tills were full of cash and Harry knew that he would have to do an extra deposit run.
Harry had set up the system so that they only had to go to the bank no more than twice a week. He had purchased a safe that they kept up front which they only opened to take out money to take to the back or to set up or take down the tills. There was a special drop box inside the safe which is where all of the daily deposits would go as part of the safety measures that Harry put in place. Twice a week, Harry would pull the daily deposits and take them to the bank so that they didn't have too much cash in the store. He always did it himself seeing as it was usually during the day and he had the only key to the drop box. Sometimes, when they were especially busy Harry would come back to the store to do an extra drop. Chase had tried to tell Harry that it would be fine until morning. However, as safe as the campus was, once night fell there was always the chance of scum showing to cause trouble.
Chase would tease him and tell him that they were tougher than they looked. Cassidy would look affronted and insist that she could take on anybody who came after her. Allison, while she didn't say anything, she shook her head when Harry came in one night insisting on going to do the deposit.
Okay, so Harry knew that he was a bit paranoid, but he still felt that it was better to be safe than sorry.
Harry finished putting the cash into a small non-descript backpack and began getting ready to head to the bank. They would be closed by now, but Harry knew that they had a small drop box specifically for business. He had already filled out the deposit slip and all he had to do was drop it in.
"Seriously boss. It would have been fine til morning."
"I'm sure. But I would rather be safe than sorry." Harry replied with a frown. He had been feeling a bit strange for the last hour or so and he couldn't put his finger on why.
"I wouldn't complain, Chase. It means less work for you tonight." Allison said with a laugh as she finished mopping the lobby. Harry could help but smile at her laugh.
"I don't know," Piped up Cassidy who was cleaning the espresso bar. "I think that Harry is overreacting. Its not even ten and he's acting like we're gonna be robbed any minute."
"Plus," Chase added, "Even if someone tried to rob us, he had that panic button installed on the safe and I don't even have key for it. They could try to rob us but they won't get very far."
Allison laughed again at the look of irritation that crossed Harry's face. She knew that he wasn't really irritated but he liked to play the serious role. She turned to put the mob away in the back. "They do make good points Harry."
Because her back was turned, she never noticed the irritated look melt off his face and a small smile replace it. "Okay, so I'm paranoid, but it's because I'm paranoid that if something were to happen, there wouldn't be much damage."
Cassidy and Chase rolled their eyes. They both knew that their friends liked each other and they hadn't been able to talk them into doing anything. It was getting a bit annoying.
"Okay, I'm leaving, but if you guys need something, just call me." Harry said as he began making his way out the door.
"Okay, if we get robbed, we'll call you." Cassidy said sarcastically. Harry grinned; she walked right into this one.
"Now Caruth, I know you think I am invincible, but if you get robbed, you actually call the police. You do remember how to do that right?" He dodged the wet rag that she threw at his head and ducked out the door. He absolutely loved messing with Cassidy.
