I woke up, gasping for air.
My hands flew to my lips as I sat up in my bed. I squinted my eyes as I tried to take in my surroundings.
What the hell?
I had a pounding headache and my body was extremely sore.
My heart pounded as I tried to remember what happened. Why was I in my house? And where was Jake? Did he drop me off at home?
The house was quiet as I crept down the stairs. My mom is gone, as usual. As I passed the window by the kitchen I realized the street looked dry.
Weird, because it was raining last night.
My blonde hair was tight up in a bun, which was extremely odd because my hair was curled last night and I don't remember putting it up in a bun.
I sat down on a stool at the table by my kitchen to put together the pieces.
I was wearing black yoga pants and a white crop top that had a cat on it, which was weird because last night I was not wearing this.
I banged my head against the table, trying to remember what happened.
Was I drunk? Oh god. Did Jake just butter me up to get me drunk and then rape me?
No, I have no marks anywhere and I'm pretty sure I would've remembered that.
I lifted my head up from where it laid on the table. I reached for my phone, or Jake's phone, that laid a few inches away on the table from where I sat on the stool.
As soon as I turned it on, my eyes widened.
This was my phone. MINE.
Me and Jake didn't switch phones last night!
I felt a sharp pain in my head and I groaned. This was so weird.
It took all my strength to turn my phone on again and start a new message to Ashley.
Before I could click on my message icon, I noticed the date.
August 20. August 20th was the day of the concert.
I could hear my heart beat a million times per second in my chest as I dialed Ashley's number.
"Hello?"
She picked up on the first ring, thank god.
"Ashley what day is it?" I asked, biting my lip."
I could hear her laugh on the other end of the phone. "Ha-ha. You're funny, Allie."
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
She sighed.
"If you are going to play that way, fine. Today is Jake Woods's concert! And we are going to have so much fun. Maybe we can sneak backstage! Ooh I like that idea! And then-"
I cut her off by a loud gasp. "No, no. It's not August 20. We already been to his concert. We already met him! Hell, we even switched phones! I even kissed him last night!"
Ashley chuckled. "I swear, each day you are getting even more delusional."
I tried breathing in and out to calm my nerves, but that wasn't working.
"Oh...My...God." I managed to get out between breaths.
"Well if you are done here, I'm going to get ready! I'll be there at 5 o' clock sharp so be ready!"
The line went dead.
This has to be some kind of sick prank. I know I wasn't dreaming all that...Was I?
Oh my god what if I was? That was all a dream? All fake? That kiss...Fake? Switching phones with Jake was not real. Not real. Not real. Not real.
I could feel myself getting a little dizzy and the next thing you know, I'm on the floor, my vision black. Like how it all started.
**
"Is she awake?"
"She opened an eye!"
I squinted my eyes, but all I could see was a bright light.
"Don't worry honey, you're ok."
I couldn't make out where these voices were coming from, or where I was, all that I could think of was the phone.
The phone that made me go viral. The phone that humiliated me. The phone that got me my first kiss. Well, if it was real.
I just closed my eyes and everything was once again black.
**
I awoke again, except I could open my eyes without being blinded.
I was in a hospital. I could see tubes running everywhere, even on my body.
There was a knock on the door and I didn't even bother to say anything.
The door opened and Ashley came running in, a worried expression on her face.
"Oh my god, Allie. Are you ok? What happened? Did I say something wrong?" She pulled a chair over next to me and sat down.
I sighed, unsure if I should say anything. To be honest, I have no idea what has been going on these past days.
Was this a dream too? What if my whole life was just a dream?
I bit my lip, but quickly released it because the pain was just unbearable.
Ashley tilted her head to her side, clearly waiting for an answer.
So I gave her one. I started from when we snuck backstage and to the kiss on the bench. I told her about waking up, and having no idea where I was, and why I was here.
I told her about going downstairs and finding out about what day it was. I told her about calling her, being confused and dizzy.
"Wow, ok. The doctors must've put you on some serious pain killers." Ashley joked, sitting back in her chair.
I shook my head. "No."
Ashley sighed. "Sorry Hun, but that must've been some strange dream you had. Jake wasn't even in Cali until today. Impossible."
I wanted to sit up and just slap her across the face. But of course I couldn't, because there will a million damn tubes connected to me.
"It wasn't, I swear. I mean, it just felt so real." I protested, trying to ignore the pain I felt throughout my body every time I talked.
"Allie, I'm sorry but that was a dream."
