"Missy, you have a lot of explaining to do!" Ashely laughs, as we stand in line to show our bought tickets.
Her laugh is contagious and I find myself laughing along with her.
"I know, I know." I say, with a huge grin on my face.
Is this even reality? I mean, I barely know this Jake guy and we are dating...I think.
What if he's too scared to be seen around me? What if I humiliate him? What if he already has a girlfriend?
Allie, stop! You seriously need to stop worrying about every little thing that could go wrong. He obviously likes you, why else would he kiss you?
I sigh, running my fingers through my hair. I'm just going to have this ongoing battle with myself, aren't I?
Ashley sees my stressed face and places an arm around my shoulder.
"Als, are we still on for the sleepover tonight?" She asks, trying to lighten the mood.
As much as I really do want to spend time with my best friend, my head hurts from all this thinking and I think I just need a nap or something. I can't handle anymore pressure.
I shake my head. "I was actually just thinking about going home now. I know you really want me to go with you, but I don't think I can handle anymore of this stress,"
When I see her hurt face, I add, "Besides, I already saw this concert before, remember?"
She puts on a smile, but her eyes say otherwise. "Alright. You go home and rest, but I am expecting a call first thing tomorrow!"
I apologize again quickly and give her a hug before I walk back out into the humid late July air.
My hair whips around my face as I walk into the crowded parking lot. Squealing girls pass beside me, dressed from head to toe in Jake Woods merchandise.
I still have no ideas how some girls can actually obsess over a guy the haven't even met!
Oh no, am I turning into those girls?
The thought leaves my head as quickly as it comes, as I shake it from
my mind.
No way!
I reach my car and open the driver seat door. I step in and sit down on my leather seat, my butt getting sore already from the hardness of the seat.
I really do need a job so I can buy myself a new car. This one is horrible!
I start the car, and thankfully it turns on without a hassle.
As I pull out of my spot, I turn on the local radio station.
"Now the latest hit from Jake Woods, 'Dance in the Dark!'"
I roll my eyes and hit the off button.
No more Jake tonight.
I just need sleep.
Sleep sounds so good right now I can't wait to just lay on my bed and close my eyes.
I start to daydream about sleeping but I have to remind myself that I'm driving a car right now, and if I fall asleep...Well, lets just say I would be asleep forever.
I pull off the exit that leads to my house, and I hear a police siren in the distance.
Hah. Someone's in trouble.
Two police cars pass me, and my stomach drops.
I'm on the street my house is on, and there is literally only three other houses on this street.
I pick up speed when I realize the sirens were headed to my house.
Dad?
A lump grows in my throat and I swallow it back down before tears can spring into my eyes.
I haven't seen my father in what, 10 years? He left when I was 7 for another woman.
I remember that day very clearly. My mom and dad were fighting, as usual. I went upstairs to my room as soon as I heard stuff breaking. I peaked out of my room just in time to see my dad slap my mom and take the money we keep in a jar and walk out.
I remember running down the stairs and helping my mom sit on the couch as I cleaned the wounds my dad left.
But I couldn't clean the mental scars.
Who else would it be? My mom was at work in some state, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a burglar since we have probably the most fanciest security system on the planet.
I parked my car parallel to the sidewalk and got out. I slammed the car door shut and walked up to a police man standing at the foot of my driveway.
