"shh," carl whispered in rylee's ear as they were going at it against a stock shelf in they diner break room, "quiet babe"
He moved at a faster pace, because he was starting to get paranoid that somebody would walk in. rylee couldn't stop the noises falling from her mouth, so carl covered her mouth with his hand, gripping the shelf with the other. Both of their breathing increased, and a muffled yell came from rylee as a bottle of some sort of spice fell from the rack onto the floor.
They stayed still for a moment, then stepped back and fixed their clothes after catching their breath. carl buttoned his jeans, then leaned forward and kissed rylee's forehead. he walked over to the spilled mess of spices on the floor as the door suddenly opened.
"what's going on?" his boss asked as soon as he walked in.
"oh uh, i dropped some spices." carl said, setting the jar back on the rack, and discretely pushed rylee back to the corner of the rack, so she couldn't be seen. He grabbed a small broom and dust pan and began cleaning the mess.
"why are you sweating?" his boss asked suspiciously, still standing by the door.
"it's hot in the kitchen." carl said simply.
"you're not in the kitchen."
carl didn't know how to respond to that, so he decided to just nod instead of explain himself.
"are you high or something?" he asked carl.
he immediately stopped nodding, yelling "no!"
his boss just looked at him for a moment, knitting his eyebrows together, "finish cleaning that up and get back to the kitchen."
"yes sir."
he exited the room, and carl waited a moment before looking back at rylee. they were silent for a moment before they both burst out laughing. Rylee grabbed the dust pan from carl's hands, saying "go get back to work."
__________________________"you want anything?" carl asked rylee when their shifts had ended. it was 1pm, so carl decided it was time for lunch.
"i'm good" rylee declined the offer.
they waited for a waitress to box up carl's order and then began to walk back to rylee's house.
"so uh, do you think everything's done now with lamar and stuff?" rylee asked while they walked down the sidewalk.
"yeah i mean, we're not lying," carl shrugged, "they don't like starting shit if they don't have to"
rylee nodded and they continued silently walking while carl tapped his fingers against his to go box, until they reached rylee's house.
They walked down the long hallway to rylee's room, where they sat on the bed in silence, both on their phones, as carl finished his food. After a few minutes, rylee started chuckling to herself.
"what's so funny?" carl asked
"remember when we were little, and you melted my barbies on your toaster, so i didn't talk to you for a whole day?" rylee asked dramatically, laughing at the memory.
"yes," carl laughed, "you didn't even like those stupid barbies."
"but you melted them!" they both laughed.
