"Two hundred dollars for one textbook?!" Farlan exclaims.

I couldn't help but snicker at his reaction to the prices of the medical text books. I have to admit, I myself am shocked at the price but I then remember that I have over six hundred dollars from Mrs. Yeager. Thanks to her I'll have extra money for myself to spend freely on school supplies . . . or get new novels. I can weigh my priorities.

Farlan whistles with his eyebrows raised. "These books better be worth the money. Do you know how many video games I can buy for two hundred?"

He pauses for a reaction. I simply shrug, not caring for an answer, but I already know he's going to give me one.

"A lot," he says slowly to make sure I'd catch on.

I roll my eyes. Him and video games, they are inseparable

I read down my list, checking off the books as I go. You'd think they'd cut you some slack and only require one or two of these things, but no they expect you to have all this money.

Farlan and I take our textbooks to check out where a woman with glasses awaits us. Her chocolate colored hair is sloppily tied into a ponytail. She wore a lab coat which I find extremely odd.

"Did you guys find everything you need?" She asks in a cheerful tone.

We place the textbooks onto the counter as the woman began to scan them. She scans Farlan's textbooks first, since his was the least amount. She hums while doing so, making me feel slightly annoyed.

Farlan is the only one to respond. "Yeah, they are really expensive though. I'll just be renting these."

"Yes they are, but it's worth it in the end," she tells him.

I tap my fingers against the top of my stack of textbooks waiting impatiently for her to finish. The woman and Farlan seem to be having a conversation of their own which only distracts her from her work. How annoying.

The woman asks for his school ID while she sets his rented textbooks in a brown paper bag. Farlan hands her his school ID. When she glances at his photo she compliments him with a bright smile which only made Farlan chuckle.

Luckily for him we were able to take our ID pictures earlier this morning. While mine came out looking like shit, Farlan's ID photo came out practically flawless.

"Alright, Farlan," she says as she hands back his school ID, "make sure you return them in topnotch condition!"

Farlan nods. He takes hold of his paper back and thanks the woman behind the counter. "Thank you, ma'am."

"Awe, don't call me that! Just call me Hanji, ma'am sounds too formal."

Farlan waves goodbye. He informs me that he's heading back to the dorm room before his first class at noon. I wave him off while Hanji scans my textbooks.

"You're renting too?" She asks.

I shrug, not knowing if I should. They do come by cheaper if you rent them.

"Sure," I reply nonchalantly.

I take out my wallet, where I stored Mrs. Yeager's money, and count the hundred bills as Hanji scans each one. Since I'll be taking extra courses I am required to use more textbooks, not that I mind a whole lot.

"You're becoming a surgeon? That's a tough job," Hanji comments, noticing the content if the books.

I nod. She smiles, but not a simple smile. She smiles crazily, her head lowering which only makes it creepier.
