Day 4 in Base
I am woken once again by my alarm, someone with my breakfast and taken out by Liz. We walk back to NavCom and back toward the Medical Wing.
"Ok, so, today you have all of your medical evaluations. That's going to include a lot of different things. They will be asking you about your medical history and will be conducting tests from there. Even though you may have a full and complete medical history, we need to get a new one for you when you join the Navy. Ooh yeah, and that includes vaccinations."
I stop. I pull the most wtf face at Liz.
"Needles?"
"Yeah? Problem?"
I stay silent for a second and Liz answers he own question.
"Afraid of them? Really?"
"They just hurt. Like the best way to explain is probably getting stabbed in the arm and then getting birthday punches when you're 117 years old. And the pain doesn't go away. It radiates up my arm and it throbs like a bitch."
"Oh. You're going to have a blast today then."
Liz giggles and we continue walking into what now seems like the gates to hell. I'm all for being healthy and seeing a doctor but when they bring out the stabby stick. Nope. Fuck off. I choose living.
Liz gets me to sit at a chair before talking to a nurse that passes by. The conversion ends and Liz signals for me follow. I follow closely behind. I'm taken to sit in a bay.
It's pretty boring. Just a big white hydraulic bed. A panel behind the bed for all sorts of different things. It's smells like a hospital; strong disinfectant. It's almost comforting in a way.
I sit on the edge of the bed with my feet touching the ground. I'm staring to feel nervous but I don't really know why.
A nurse walks through the curtain that had been pulled across, with a clipboard and behind follows a handsome man. Oldest he could be, maybe 35.
The nurse steps aside and talks to Liz. The man steps toward me.
"May I?" He gestures toward the bed asking to sit down.
"Be my guest."
"My name is Nick. I'm a doctor here at the base and I'm going to be running all your tests and whatever else needs to be done."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Ivy." I shake his hand firmly.
"Alright we have a lot to do today. So let me get a few things and we can get started."
I smile shyly and he walks out with the nurse following behind him.
"I'll be back once you're all done. Just call me when you're finished and I'll take you back home."
"Cool. See you later."
Liz walks out.
The one main problem with hospitals and medical centres is you always have to wait. I broke my arm when I was 7 and I waited 6 hours to be seen to have it reassessed. This hospital is different though.
Less than 5 minutes later, Nick returns with a white lab coat, a stethoscope around his neck and laptop under his arm.
"Ok so I'm going to need your medical history and that will also have to include hereditary illnesses and diseases."
