Prying my eyes open, I expected to see sun pouring into the room but there wasn't. Was it dark? A feeling of calmness washed over me like a waterfall as I realized where I was. The Glade. But it was soon interrupted when I heard shouts of panic.
I swung my feet over the bed and stood. Making my way towards the door, the door flew open and banged against the wall. I jumped, my heart doing an extra thousand beats.
"Oh my God, your awake," Thomas enveloped me in a hug. He visibly relaxed. I returned the hug but quickly pulled away as the questions exploded in my mind.
"What's going on out there? What's happening? Did something happen to one of the Gladers?" I swore you would have to play that in slow motion to understand me.
"Relax. Everything's f-fine," Thomas looked to the ground as he stuttered. My eyes turned to slits as I put my hands on my hips. He winced, seeing my face, "ok maybe not everything."
"What's going on Thomas?" My voice was low almost menacing, it sent him twiddling his thumbs while he tried to think of something to say.
"The doors aren't closing," he spoke as quick as I did asking questions. I didn't know if I heard him right as I flickered my eyes up to his.
"What?" I pushed past him, Thomas stumbling back. I walked through the door, not before quickly apologizing when I saw he had to grab the table to keep from tumbling over.
I ran out of the medjacks to find the Glade in chaos. Gladers were running around trying to get weapons. Some were stressfully running their fingers through their hair. Others were arguing. Alby and Newt were tying to keep everyone calm but were horribly failing to do so. I sprinted towards Alby and rose my hand to touch his shoulder and get his attention.
"Hey Alby-" but I quickly stopped. As soon as I touched him something traveled up my arm. It wasn't an object it was a feeling. My vision went blurry and all I saw was darkness. A scream shredded it's way through my head. It wasn't my scream it was Alby's. A scream full of terror and panic and pain. It was so chilling, the scream sent goosebumps down my back. I had to quickly tear my hand from his shoulder to make it stop. Thomas jogged up behind me.
"You need to stay in the medjacks and stay there until someone comes to get you," Thomas started to push me back towards the building made of straw and sticks.
"Hey hey hey, no I'm not and I'm not listening to you. I'm going to do the opposite of what everyone tells me to do because that's just how I am," I started to speed walk towards the weaponry, grabbing a spear.
"You-" he pointed to me," -need to listen to me. I'm trying to save as many people here!"
"Well me too! And I won't be able to do that if you force me to hide, you shuck fa-"
"Slim it you two!" Newt yelled over both of us, "bickering isn't going to bloody solve anything!" But before I could say anything a blur of motion hit Thomas. He collapsed to the ground, holding his jaw. Gally. Gally hit Thomas in the jaw.
